4 PAGE 2, SECTION FAYETTE LEADER, FAYETTE, IOWA THURSDAY, NOV. 5, 1970 Married Miss May Jane Wedemeier, Fayette, and Kenneth Lawless of West Union, were married Friday, Oct. 16, at the Zion Lutheran Church in West Union. They will be making their home in West Union. Philathea The Philathea Class of the First United Methodist Church met Wednesday for a social meeting and smorgasbord dinner in Fellowship Hall.

Mrs. Stella Lund and Miss Bessie Schneider served as hostesses. Dr. T. Carl offered the invocation.

In the program that followed Mrs. Carl presented the devotional period. Mrs. Margaret McSweeny, in charge of the program, read poems and articles of The president of the class, Mrs. Laura Hendrix, was honored by a birthday cake, a birthday song, and was presented a gift from the class.

A letter from Harriett Bruner, Infant Baptized Timothy David, infant son of Dr. and Mrs. David Pippert of Fayette, received the rites of Holy Baptism at the worship services of the United Methodist Church Sunday, Nov. 1. His brother, Gregg, assisted Dr.

George T. Carl who officiated. The maternal grandmother, Mrs. Barbara Earle, and the paternal garndparents, Mr. and Mrs.

Kenneth Pippert of Rock Island, Ill. were present. a missionary teacher in Medellen, Columbia, was read telling of her work and experiences there. The November meeting will be Monday, Nov. 23 instead of the usual date, due to Thanksgiving.

Reed were twice honored in October on the occasion of their fortieth wedding anniversary. On Oct. 24 relatives and friends honored them with a supper at Baker's Cafe in Oelwein. The following day there was another gathering at the Maynard Community Hall. At the Maynard party Mrs.

Bud Fisher, Cedar Rapids, cousin of Mrs. Reed, attended the guest book. Debbie Odekirk and DeLois Vandersee, granddaughters of the couple, opened the gifts. A money tree, presented by their children, was the centerpiece at the gift table. Lunch was served to 250 guests with Mrs.

Ronald Bruner, Arlington, and Mrs. Willard Weber, Arlington, pouring the coffee and punch. Mrs. Wayne Taylor, Oelwein, niece of the couple served the open Bible cake which was made by Mrs. John Fay, Fayette.

Helping in the kitchen were Mrs. Lawrence Kauten, Mrs. Benton Harrison, Mrs. Arnold Paul and Mrs. Clair Bigelow, all from Fayette and friends of the couple.

Hosts at the open house were their children and spouses: Mr. and Mrs. John (Betty) Riley, Itasca, Mr. and Mrs. Don (Beverly) Vandersee, Fayette; Mr.

and Mrs. Kieron (Beulah) of Odekirk, Cedar Rapids; Mr. and of Mrs. Duwayne (Bonnie) Kastli, Oelwein; Mr. and Mrs.

Harold (Georgia) Nolting, Hudson; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Reed, Sumner; Mr. and Mrs. Gary (Nancy) Maurer, Oelwein; Mr.

and Mrs. Gary Reed, Fayette; and Eugene Reed at home. Mr. Reed, the son of the late Vick and Lottie (Blake) Reed, Lamont, and the former Donna Pieplow, daughter of the late Henry and Elizabeth (Wolfe) Pieplow, Aurora, were married Oct. 21, 1930, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, with Mrs.

Bud (Myra Falck) Fisher and Loren (Jack) Reed, Reed's brother, as attendants. Mr. and Mrs. Reed resided at Aurora, Stanley and Randalia before they moved to their present farm in 1948. The Reed's have nine children and 16 grandchildren.

They are: Douglas, Darwin, DeLois, Dewight, Dean and Darla Vandersee; Kent, Bobbie and Tina Odekirk; Todd, Tim and Tracie Kastli; Mark, Andy, and Marcy Reed; and Michele Maurer who all attended the open house. Guests were represented from the following towns Lamont, Oelwein, Aurora, Independence, Jesup, Maynard, Fayette, Arling- ton, Sumner, Waterloo, Hazelton, Cedar Falls, Elkader, Belle Plaine, Raymond, Manchester, Hawkeye, Stanley, Ames, Winthrop, Fort Atkinson, Ceadr Rapids, Dunkerton, Hudson, Iowa. Itasca, Chicago, and Blue Island, Ill. Other guests other than their family at the Oct. 24 party were: Mr.

and Mrs. Lester Reed, Aurora; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Reed, Lamont; Mr. and Mrs.
