IJraea's is hard to beat. Kach main dish is priced at $12 vs. a bonanza that includes soup or wiled, Italian sesame bread and plump, wonderfully fleshy roasted red peppers. Moreover, the big portions are probably more than you can cat at one sitting, and it Is likely you can have dinner the next night on the leftovers. The high level of culinary accomplishment is sparked by the chef's assertive seasonings, which made several dishes, notably polenta and shrimp fra diavolo, something to remember.

Castillo and Your Health), has been gaining popularity among llispanics who don't have access to medicul advice they can comprehend, said Jose Castillo, a general practitioner whose program has appeared on WTGI-TV (Channel 61) since April. "I worry about the fact that so many llispanics were just not being reached with important health information," Castillo said in an interview. According to a 1992 study by the Strategy Research there are 76,500 Hispunic residents in the three counties. Castillo said the language burner prevents llispanics from getting enough medical advice, if any. Rosalind Thigpen-Rodd, executive director of the state Office of Minority Health, agrees that language is a serious barrier for llispanics.

"There are no adequate translation services," she said, "and when you are dealing with your health, you need the appropriate translation." Thigpen-Rodd said the key element in addressing the problem is providing bilingual heulth services. Another problem, she said, is the financing of medicul services. "It is a fact that Latinos are the lurgest percentage of uninsured minority groups," she said. "We have to come up with a mechanism to offer some basic heulth insurance which will be less costly for them." Johany Almonte, 24, a native of the Dominican Republic and a patient of Castillo's, can relate to those issues. said, but it was too expensive for him to fly back every time he needed a doctor.

Four weeks ago. his mother told him about Dr. Castillo Su Salud. and Almonte started watching the show. "When my back pain started again, I went to see him." he said.

"He was very helpful, and he treated me like family." liesides, Almonte said, Castillo's first question was not whether he was insured. According to a recent report by the Office of Minority Health, minorities in general have a shorter life span. latinos and African Americans make up 19 percent of the nation's population, but account for 67 percent of its AIDS cases. The rate of cardiovascular disease among minorities is twice that among whites. Minorities are more than twice as likely to be hospitalized for diabetes and have a higher rule of diabetes-related amputations than whites.

While health-care changes are being debated to address these problems, Castillo continues with his program. In each show, he discusses health Issues with a specialist. "So far, the response from the community has been overwhelmingly positive," he said. "I've received more than 100 letters from viewers, many asking for specific medical advice or referrals to Spunish-spcaking physiciuns." The progrum's audience has been growing steadily, said Dun Slape, WTCI's general manager. WTGI, sturted in April by TKR Hamilton and TKR ShadeGloucester Cable systems, airs a mix of ethnic programming, including Spanish-language shows.

Castillo, a native of Mexico and president of the Ibcro-Iitin-American Society of Medicul Professionals in the Delaware Valley, has also taken his show on the road, broadcasting from schools and other settings in the area. Almonte arrived in the United States four years ago. He never thought it was necessary for him to get insurance, he said. One day, however, he started feeling a back pain and went to a doctor. "The first thing he asked me was if 1 was insured," Almonte said. "Then, he didn't understand mo and I didn't understand him." When the back puin got worse, Almonte flew back to Santo Domingo to see his doctor there.
