5B FLORIDA TODAY, Tuesday, May 23, 2000 PS OBITUARIES Southern Bell supervisor Robert Boone, 73, dies Home in Melbourne is in charge of arrangements. CHARLES VAN METER MELBOURNE Charles A. Van Meter, 80, a retired maintenance supervisor, died Monday, May 22, at Holmes Regional Medical Center. Mr. Van Meter was born in Alturas, Calif.

He came to Brevard County in 1956 from Kissimmee. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving with the 2nd Airborne division. Mr. Van Meter worked as a down range logistic manager for PanAm Airlines for 20 years, and then worked for CF Industries in Plant City as a maintenance He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church on Merritt Island. Mr.

Boone was a member of American Legion Post 0022 of Merritt Island, Moose Lodge 2073, Elks Lodge 2113, a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and Volunteers in Motion. Other survivors include his sons, Robert Boone of Titusville and Gary Boone of Ormond Beach; stepsons, David and Mark Brock-ner, both of Buffalo, N.Y.; stepdaughter, Rebecca Smith of Fort Lauderdale; sister, Isabelle Barber of Winter Park; three grandchildren; and one step-grandchild. Calling hour will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday, with services following, at Florida Memorial Funeral Home, north of Melbourne. Donations may be made to charity of one's choice.

Zaidel, 72, a retired laboratory analyst for E. I. Dupont De Numours and died Saturday, May 20, at Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne. Mr. Zaidel was born in Buffalo, N.Y.

He came to Brevard County in 1989 from Orchard Park, N.Y. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Zaidel was a graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, N.Y. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Melbourne.

Survivors include his wife, Josephine Zaidel of Palm Bay; stepdaughter, Diane Gardner of West Palm Beach; stepson, Jeffrey Tilley of Oxnard, and brother, Victor Zaidel of Loudon, Tenn. Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, at Brownlie and Maxwell Funeral Home in Melbourne. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, at First Baptist Church of Melbourne.

FLOTO James E. Floto, 68, died May 19, 2000 at Wuesthoff Hospital. Mr. Floto worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Akron, Ohio for 38 years. He retired in 1987, moved to Cocoa Beach, Florida in 1989, then to Merritt Island, Florida in 1998.

He graduated from Akron East in 1950, attended Akron University and served in the U.S. Navy. He was the recipient of the Goodyear Spirit Award in 1979, and the Goodyear Technical Achievement Award in 1985. James was very active in semi-pro baseball in Akron during his early years and was inducted into the Akron Baseball Hall of Fame in 1994. In later years he was active in several golf leagues.

He loved both games. He was a member of the 'Old Timers Club' (Indy 500), The and active in the Boys and Girls Club of America. He is survived by wife, Audrey Floto of Merritt Island, Florida; daughters, Susan (Mike) Wagner of Augusta, Georgia, Judy (Matt) Miller of Greensboro, North Carolina, Mary (Roger) Domke of Findley, Ohio; sons, Jim (Denise) Floto of Parker, Colorado, Jeff (Julie) Bates of Hiram, Ohio, and Daryl Lucien of Rockyriver, Ohio; sisters, Joan (Tom-deceased) Frye of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, Mary (Jim) Gaffney of North Canton, Ohio, and Irene (Bob) Voung of Akron; brother, William (Dianne) Floto of Tall-madge, Ohio; sister-in-law, Jane Floto of Akron; 16 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by brother, Richard Floto and sister, Jean Getzinger. There are no calling hours.

Mr. Hames was born in Waynesville, N.C.

He came to Brevard County in 1986 from Miami. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and an Army veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Hames was an accountant with the finance department of Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. Survivors include his stepmother, Eloise Hames of Lebanon, Ga.

No calling hours or services are scheduled. Wylie-Baxley Rockledge Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. MARY HANLEY PALM BAY Mary Munroe Hanley, 86, a homemaker, died Saturday, May 20, at Palm Bay Community Hospital. Mrs. Hanley came to Brevard County in 1975 from Oswego, N.Y.

Survivors include her daughters, Sandra Carbone of West Henrietta, N.Y., Janice Baker of Oswego, and Bridget Cohen of Port Orange; eight grandchildren; and 11 greatgrandchildren. JIMMY JOINER COCOA Jimmy Dean Joiner, 56, a retired construction worker at Kennedy Space Center, died Friday, May 19, at home. Mr. Joiner was born in Cairo, Ga. He came to Brevard County in 1983 from Clarksville, Tenn. Survivors include his sons, Anthony Joiner of Plantation, and Steve Joiner of Clarksville; mother, Evelyn Joiner of Tampa; father, Everett Joiner of Mims; brothers, Charlie and Robert Joiner, both of Seffner, Floyd Joiner of Mulberry, Wayne Joiner of Birmingham, and T.J.

Joiner of Huntsville, sisters, Cathy Sanders of Pembroke, and Mary Lawson of Raleigh, N.C; and four grandchildren. No calling hours are scheduled. Memorial services will be later. Mrs. Luongo was born in Boston. She came to Brevard County in 1981 from West Palm Beach. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rockledge.

Mrs. Luongo was a school crossing guard in Rockledge, a part of the Busy Fingers senior citizens organization and she By Sylvia Reyes FLORIDA TODAY MERRITT ISLAND Robert N. Boone, 73, a supervisor for Southern Bell, died Sunday, May 14, in Torremolinos, Spain. Mr. Boone was born in Lees-burg.

He was the fourth generation of his family to be born in Florida. He came to Brevard County in 1963 from Miami. He was a Navy submarine veteran of World War II in the Pacific theater. Mr. Boone worked for before it split, and remained, working for Southern Bell.

He retired after 40 years of service. "The 25 years that I was married to him were the best years of my life," said his wife, Joyce Boone of Merritt Island. "He was just a wonderful man." volunteered as a "Pink Lady" for Wuesthoff Hospital. Survivors include her niece, Linda Bassett of Rockledge; and nephews, Fremont, John, and Greg Bassett, all of Rockledge. No calling Luongo hours are scheduled.

McCarter, 75, a retired textile worker, died Thursday, May 18, at Holmes Regional Medical Center. Mrs. McCarter came to Brevard County in 1997 from Haleyville, where she was born.

Survivors include her son, Floyd McCarter of Melbourne; daughter, Martha McCarter of Abilene, Texas; brother, Roscoe Wilder of Oklahoma City, four grandchildren; six greatgrandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. EUGENE NYE TITUSVILLE Eugene E. Nye, 80, a retired machinist for NASA, died Saturday, May 20, at home. Mr. Nye was born in Nyesville, Pa. He came to Brevard County in 1959 from Hagertown, Md.

He was a member of American Legion Post 1, the Elks Lodge 2113 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4228, all in Titusville. Mrs. Owens came to Brevard County in 1996 from Fordyce, where she was born. She was a member of Bible Way Church of God in Christ in Oak Hill. Survivors include her husband, Derick Owens of Titusville; sons, Adrain and Corrie White, both of Titusville; daughters, Allison White of Titusville, Crystal and Dieasha Owens, both of Eldorado, brother, Enoch Smith of Fordyce; and sisters, Martha Smith and Dorothy Crosby, both of New York. Gainous-Wynn Funeral Home in New Smyrna Beach is in charge of arrangements. STANLEY VAN ARSDELL SATELLITE BEACH Stanley C. Van Arsdell, 94, a finish carpenter, died Friday, May 19, at Indian River-Genesis Eldercare in West Melbourne. Mr. Van Arsdell was born in Winchester, Ky.

He came to Brevard County in 1996 from Lexington, Ky. He was Presbyterian. Survivors include his wife, Evaleen Van Arsdell of Satellite Beach; daughter, Beverly Orrill of Satellite Beach; sisters, Eleanor Warren of Wilmington, and Dorothy Crowe of Colorado Springs, six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. No calling hours are scheduled. Memorial services will be private.

Mrs. Wilson was born in Sidman, Pa. She came to Brevard County in 1995 from South Fork, Pa. She worked for Cay Artley Ladies Apparel in Johnstown, Pa. Mrs.

Wilson was Protestant. She enjoyed sewing, making crafts and gardening. Survivors include her sons, Eugene Wilson of Girard, Fred Wilson of Umatilla, William Wilson of South Fork, and Gary Wilson of Melbourne; 17 grandchildren; 31 greatgrandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. No calling hours are scheduled. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m.

She came to Brevard County in 1997 from Fort Lauderdale. Survivors include her sister, Margaret Gehrlein of Palm Bay, and brother, Ralph Womer of Birmingham, Ala.
