Calla Lily Care Q.

Last spring I planted a calla lily bulb in a large pot. I now have a beautiful, large plant composed of fine, large leaves. The leaves are still developing. However, I want flowers, not too many leaves. I am still watering it regularly.

How can I induce it to bloom? After blooming should I gradually cease to water it and set aside to rest? MRS. N. C. H. A.

Try giving: the calla an application of liquid manure or other fertilizer. You may have to give it several applications at weekly intervals. The calla is usually grown as a house plant. It prefers an abundance of water in fall, winter and spring- and should be baked by the sun in summer, during which season the pots may be placed on their sides outside. Usually, after being- in the open all summer the bulbs are repotted and started into growth in Sep Where Haverford Rd.

I am getting married February-23 and will travel to Florida by automobile for a two-week honeymoon. Please suggest what clothes my fiance and I should take along.

We would like them to be as compact as possible. Miss A. Philadelphia. A. Wear a suit for driving on the trip down, preferably one that won't muss, and take along extra blouses to change.

You'll need a winter coat to start out, of course. Have two or three casual cotton dresses to wear in Florida, and possibly a tropical suit for cooler days. Include one dressy outfit for dining and dancing in the evening, perhaps a cotton or shantung cocktail dress that may be worn next summer here at home. By having most of your lingerie of nylon you can save a lot of space in your luggage it dries quickly and needs no ironing. Try to coordinate the colors in your wardrobe so that you can manage with one pair of casual shoes and one pair of dressy shoes.

In the latter category, pumps are an especially good choice since they go well with just about every type costume. It would be wise to pack a summer weight topper, also a fur jacket or stole if you have one. Your fiance should take along slacks, a sport jacket and two or three sports shirts, in addition to the suit he plans to wear for traveling. He ought to have a summer-type dinner jacket, too, when he takes you dancing. (He may like some of the new ones in plaids and checks now being shown for resort wear.) Both of you will want bathing suits and beach accessories, too.

Society stands expectantly on the threshold of another holiday season, which starts officially with the splendor of an Assembly Ball. Meanwhile the younger members of society, many of them just back from schools and colleges, have hwt no time since arriving home in starting the course of the social snowball.

The parties started with the dinner, with dancing, given last evening by Mr. and Mrs. Howard Butcher, 3d, at their home in Villa-nova, lor Eve Sherrerd, debutante daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William D.

The decor for the affair followed a Christmas theme, with tall Christmas trees stationed in the corners of the rooms and quantities of great randy canes, tree ornaments and lieu res of Santa Claus combining- in a festive picture. The debutante, receiving the guests, made a memorable picture in a' frock of pale blue tulle made over taffeta of the same color, the strapless bodice trimmed with a floral applique which continued through the folds of the full skirt. The hostess selected a becoming gown of green lace, made tm graceful line and entirely self -trimmed. Mrs.
