Today, Postmaster Wilham Lee urged all residents of Mt. Vernon to use the ZIP COD es ihey have added to their mailing lists on every piece of Chri.itmas mail.

"V7e expect more mail than ever before. ZIP Code will be a key element if we are to efficiently handle 10,000,000 pieces of mail that will go through tlio Mt. Vernon post office between now and Christmas. The Post Office is geared up to process this year's record brea king deluge of mail but public cooperation is necessary for our operation to be successful. "The three main factors are Shopping early so that our customers can (B) mail early and (C) the use of ZIP Code." Postmaster Lee ouUined the program conducted earlier this year to encourage ZIP Coding.

Reminders that ZIP Code directories are available in Post Offico lobbies and many libraries. Local ZIP Codes can be found in the business pages of the phone book. A mailing of ZIP-A-LIST LOCA tor cards was sent to each home in September. After householders filled in the addresses for which ZIP Codes were needed tliey were mailed and the ZIPs were added by the post office before the cards were returned to the sender. ZIP Codes can obtained by phoning the post office, ZIP Code is carried in the cancellation mark of every city with just one code.

Most return addresses have a ZIP Code. Print and broadcast media cooperated in presenting the ZIP Code message. ZIP Code helps cut down the number of times a piece of mail must be sorted before reaching its final desUnation. This saves time and reduces the cost of moving the mail.
