Sheldon (nee Dougherty), of 6737 Chester ave. Rela- Mrs. Rosa A. Nickum, who con ducted a grocery in Hellertown for 60 years, died today in St. Luke's Starting Saturday July 10, you will dial to the above out-of-town telephones exactly as you now dial, a Philadelphia telephone by dialing the first two letters of the central office name and then the five figures of the number.

For example: to dial WElsh Valley 4-5017, you will dial the letter then the letter then the five figures in turn. An operator will come on the line and ask for YOUR own number As soon as you have dialed and before the distant telephone starts to ring, an operator will come on the line and ask, "What is YOUR number, please?" When she asks, give her the number of the Philadelphia telephone from which you are calling not the number which you want to reach. She is a special operator who cannot help you complete yourcalL Please remember that you will dial the out-of-town numbers only from telephones served by the downtown Philadelphia central offices listed above; that you will dial only station-to-station calls; that you will not dial out-of-town numbers from downtown Philadelphia coin telephones. There will be no rate change for any of these calls. You will find detailed instructions about making these calls on page 6 of the Phiadelphia Alphabetical Telephone Directories issued to subscribers with downtown telephone numbers.

This new, faster, more efficient service will be extended to all other Philadelphia subscribers in 1955. It is one more step in the program for increasing the usefulness of the dialing system one more step toward the day when you will be able to dial all Long Distance calls. No change in dialing Philadelphia telephones You will continue to dial Philadelphia telephones as you do now. There will be no change whatever in the way you dial another Philadelphia number.
