In Division I water polo, senior Ben Blaber and senior goalie Nick Pul-lerton of Wilson were chosen to the first team. Second -team honors went to teammate Pat Cochran, a sophomore. Junior Ryan Bailey of Millikan and senior Dave Ward of Poly were third-team choices. In Division II, seniors Mike Pyle and Tim Postiff of La Serna received first-team honors, while teammate Andy Walburger, a junior, and senior David Keys (Montebello) made the second team.

Third-team honors went to senior Juan Reyes of Montebello and senior Ryan Loeff of La Serna. Andrew Law, a senior from Gahr, was chosen second team in Division III. Earning first-team honors in Division II volleyball was Tanisha Larkin, a senior from Poly. Seniors Sara Gunsaulus of Millikan and Paula Makridis of Poly made the second team. La Mirada teammates Jennifer Maciaa, a senior, and Lan-ae Baker, a sophomore, were awarded second-team honors in Division IV.

Salsa of the American Professional Soccer League has invited 25 players to return to training camp Jan. 4 at Cal State Pullerton. Among them are Arthur Perez and Santo Rivas of Whittier and Ru-dolfo Echiueste of Lynwood. The Salsa begins league play in the spring and has been conducting open tryouts since early in the fall. Coach Rildo Menezes is also expected to sign several more players who have previously played in the APSL, the only professional soccer league in the United States.

The annual Artesia boys' basketball tournament concludes Saturday night with the championship game at 7 p.m. in the Pioneers' gym. The 16-team event, second oldest in the Southern Section, began Monday. The annual Paramount 10-K run will be Jan. 16.

The Crusaders' star scored 65 points and grabbed 35 rebounds in three games as she led her team to the championship of the Valley Christian Tournament in Cerritos. Veasley scored 24 points and had 10 rebounds as the Crusaders defeated Whitney High of Cerritos, 75-18. She added 17 points and 14 rebounds in a 74-32 win over Bellflower, then helped her team clinch the championship with 24 points and 11 rebounds in a 45-28 win over Pius of Downey.

Other top prep performer: Ebony Charles led Artesia to the consolation championship of the Valley Christian Tournament. The senior center recorded 45 points and hauled down 60 rebounds in three games. Charles scored 16 points and grabbed 21 rebounds in the Pioneers' first-round loss to St. Joseph, 44-40. She added 12 points and 17 rebounds as the Pioneers bounced back with their first victory of the year, 34-24, over league rival Mayfair.

Artesia then defeated La Serna, 55-42, as Charles led the way with 17 points and 22 rebounds. Heinrich scored six goals as he helped the Wildcats to a 2-0 start in the Delphic League. He posted two goals in the Wildcats' 3-0 win over league rival Crossroads, and followed that with a four-goal outburst in an 1 1 -1 thrashing of Campbell Hail. Other top prep performers: Rick Price, a junior guard, had a good week although the same could not be said about his basketball team, St. Anthony High of Long Beach.

Price recorded 25 points in the Saints' 58-54 loss to Locke. He added 30 points in a 59-55 loss to Millikan. Price finished the week with a 26-point effort as St. Anthony defeated Murphy, 67-55. Everett Ratleff, a guard for Jordan High of Long Beach, scored 65 points in three games.

Ratleff recorded 22 points as the Panthers dropped a 68-67 decision to Serra. He scored 16 points as the Panthers dropped their second straight game, 53-45, to Pasadena. He had 27 points as Jordan posted a 65-48 victory over Servite. His father, Filippo Tranl, owned Trani's Majestic in Long Beach and passed it down to Phil Tranl and his brothers. Then, when his older brothers decided to retire, Phil Tranl moved the restaurant to its. current Long Beach Boulevard location, struck out on his own and renamed it Phil Trani's.
