OUT ABOUT Center forthe Arts STREET FAIRS Food is the focus for two North County street fairs. "A Taste of MainStreet" in Encinitas will be celebrated today and "A Slice of North County" will be held Saturday in Oceanside. "A Taste of MainStreet" features an international food fair and dining tour from 5-9 p.m. today on Highway 101 between Encinitas Boulevard and Street in Encinitas. Sponsored by the Downtown Encinitas MainStreet the self-guided food tour gives ticketholders a chance to sample specialities from each of the 24 participating restaurants.

Portofino Italian Restaurant, Encinitas Cafe, Piret's, Red Kettle Brewery, Star of India, Siamese Basil and The Potato Shack Cafe are some of the eateries included in the tour. In addition, strolling musicians will perform on harps, guitars, violins, accordions and fiddles. Tickets are $18 and can be purchased at Union Bank branches in Del Mar, Downtown Encinitas, East Encinitas, Oceanside, Rancho Santa Fe and the Golden Triangle. Tickets can also be purchased by calling 943-1950 or 753-1611. Proceeds will benefit the nonprofit Downtown Encinitas MainStreet Assn.

"A Slice of North County" will be held from 11 a.m.- 7 p.m. Saturday at the Oceanside Pier, Beach and Bandshell Area. This food expo presented by The North County Entertainer will benefit The Mary Lou Clark Center for Handicapped Children in Vista. Festivities of the day include food booths, a beer garden, local bands, an auction, exhibits and games for kids. Admission to the event is free.

Pianist Randy Beecher performs from 1 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays in the lobby and Luigi Luevano performs light opera favorites from 1 p.m.

Wednesdays in the hotel's Del Mar Polo Room. All performances are free except for Opera Night, which has a 1 0 cover charge that includes two alcoholic or nonalcoholic beverages.
