The seventeen Esquires knighted AednesJay evening were the recip- ents of this degree in all of its ritual- stic granduer. With his staff, General Shafter was enjoying breakfast, and was not visible to the crowd. With him were Major H. H. Xoble, Dr. George Goodfellow and Captain Stewart Brice.

He spoke bri' fly at Van Wert, where a big crowd was at the depot. The train was run as third Xo. 0. When the party arrived at Lima the General and bis stall' were escorted to he Lima Club. A public reception and patriotic meetiug was held at Faurot opera house this afternoon.

The principal speaker of the occasion WHS Capt. Stewart Brice, a Lima boy who is on the General's staff. Tbe party remained in Lima until 3 :15 in. The popular General was lionized at Chicago, where he attended the Peace Jubilee, and large crosvdd were out all along the lino to see him. Reports from Lima this afternoon gay the de iionstralion there was au immense one.

The La Fayette day exercises in the Delphoa Public Scools, Wednesday afternoon, were pleasing and entertaining, and a valuable diversion for the scholars, who entered into the spirit of the occasion in an admirable manner. Judge Taft, of Cincinnati, has given permission to the county commissioners of Van Wert county to maintain an action against Receiver Pierce, of the Clover Leaf, in the common pleas court of that county.

The application was made as against the application of Receiver Pierce to maintain an action for injunction against the commissioners. The case ia one brought by the county commissioners to restrain the railway from obstructing the channel of the Little river by building a bridge on piling, which gorges the driftwood and turns the water from the stream into the fields of the farmers. The commissioners brought an action against the railway without applying for permission to the United States courts. Tbe receiver brought an action to re-strain the commissioners from on the grounds that state courts no jurisdiction in the matter. Tbe application for maintenance cf action was then made to Judge Taft.

It was too wet and cold. Ouly one game was played. The result was 16 to 1 in favor of Sixteen. Steinle, Jettinger, Redman and Kihm, of Delphos, played with Ottoville. The dance in the evening was well attended.
