F6 THE HARTFORD COURANT Saturday, November 22, 1997 TELEVISION THIS WEEKEND Pf Cyborg's Human Dilemma: Will He Be 'Dead By Midnight' pher on "The Pretender" (NBC at 9, TV-PG) A seemingly normal man who allegedly killed his wife and daughter and then fled is profiled on "America's Most Wanted" (Fox at 9, TV-PG, Y) Gary must save an aging gridiron great from being critically injured during a game on "Early Edition" (CBS at 9, TV-G) Sunday's other highlights Scheduled on "60 Minutes" (CBS at 7): a profile of tennis star Venus Williams; the baptist boycott of Disney; and a new look at the Kennedy papers. Carol Burnett and her daughter Carrie Hamilton, Rita Moreno and Tim Conway guest star on a "Touched by an Angel" (CBS at 8, TV-G) set on the Broadway stage. Sunday's series Jamie has to drag Junior to the hospital on "The Jamie Foxx Show" (WB at 8, TV-G) Bobby runs away from home on "King of the Hill" (Fox at 8:30, TV-PG) Tom tries to shine in front of his old friends on "The Tom Show" (WB at 8:30, TV-PG) Scully and Mulder are trapped in the woods with something deadly on "The X-Files" (Fox at 9, TV-PG, V). By KEVIN Mcdonough United Feature Syndicate David Larkin (Timothy Hutton) is no ordinary person in "Dead by Midnight" (Sunday, ABC at 9, TV-14). From' all outward appearances, he's got a great job, a loving wife, two kids and a piece of the American dream.

But he's haunted by strange memories, and occasionally overcome by bouts of rage. Then he uncovers the fact that he is the butt of the ultimate existential whammy. None of his memories are real Larkin is really a dead guy who has been rebuilt into an experimental zombie cyborg, "62 percent biological and 38 percent cybernetic," and his whole "life" is nothing but an elaborate computer program. Insensitive bureaucrats, high taxes, popular resentment and sporadic rebellions. America in the 1990s? No, the American colonies in the 1770s.

"Liberty! The American Revolution" (Sunday, CPTV, Channel 24 in the Hartford area, at continues through Tuesday) is an inspiring and occasionally exciting look at the events that led to American independence. Programming executives for ABC should be gently reminded of the events of 1776, for they have devoted a full hour of Saturday night to "Adventures With the Duchess" (ABC at 8, TV-G). Watch Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, climb mountains, dive with sharks and bounce on a trampoline. Tonight's other highlights im i mi mi.u.11.. in.Mii.

Sooner or later, the constant moviegoer must undergo Mortal Kombat The sequel to the 1995 live-action video-game movie turns out to be idiotic but amusing low kitsch. Full of mythical types and sacred temples, "Mortal Kombat Annihilation" rolls along under John R.

Leonetti's MTV-style direction as a kung fu "Star Wars," with the high seriousness of a really terrible, foreign-made, laughably dubbed Bible epic. "Annihilation" refers to the impending end of the Earth, a scheme engineered by the evil warlords of Outworld. The new adventure of the mortal heroes headed by Liu Kang and Princess Kitana begins where "Mortal Kombat" ended. Having defeated the warlords, Liu and Kitana thought the world was safe for a generation. But the Outworlders break the rules, leading their killer gang back through the portals where they proceed to wreck the Bay Area and the Golden Gate Bridge and lay waste to Paris in the Eiffel Tower arrondissement The plot cooked up by Lawrence Kasanoff, the producer, and two others consists mainly of pitting Liu, Kitana and their sidekicks, Jax and Sonya Blades, against various minions of Shao-Kahn in extended He fights gracefully FILM REVIEW QYlA $hp $haW OTPflt MORTAL KOMBAT ANNIHILATION, directed M' 9 91 V9 CtU by John R.
