Sand now is being moved by truck to the inlet's south beach. Later this year another 300,000 cubic yards will be dredged from the inlet, LeRoux said.

Road requests, 2B. i By Elliott Jones FLORIDA TODAY VERO BEACH The chairman of the Indian River County legislative delegation on Wednesday said the delegation would support a request for $380,000 in state money-to plan a sand-pumping system. The Sebastian Inlet's north jetty is blocking sand from washing south and inlet officials want the money to plan a way around the problem. The Sebastian Inlet Tax District Commission is considering using a series of permanent pumps and pipes to move the sand across the FRED NAIL VERO BEACH Fred Richard Nail, 68, a retired newspaper advertising solicitor, died Tuesday, Jan.

24, at Humana Hospital Sebastian. Mr. Nail was born in Altoona, Pa. He was a winter resident of Indian River County for four years, coming from New Paris, Pa. He was a member of the Franklin Street United Methodist Church in Johnstown, Pa.

Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Enid Robinson of Vero Beach and New Paris; sons, Richard Nail of New Paris and Fred Nail Jr. and Barry Nail, both of Portland, stepson, Herbert Miller of Lewistown, stepdaughters, Gail Hoover of Altoona and Valerie Wingard of Johnstown; and 16 grandchildren. No calling hours are scheduled. Memorial services are at 1 p.m. today at Grace United Methodist Church in Wabasso.

GEORGE REDFEARN Jr. COCOA BEACH George Benjamin Redfearn 89, a stockbroker for nearly seven decades, died Monday, Jan. 23, at home. Mr. Redfearn was born in Bloomfield, to a rich colonial heritage: An ancestor was Robert Treat, the founder of Newark, and a colonial governor of Connecticut.

He was raised and educated in Orange, where his father was an assistant to Thomas Edison. Upon completing high school, he volunteered for World War I and served with the U.S. Army Field Artillery in France. Mr. Redfearn began his lengthy career in 1919 as a runner on Wall Street for St.

John Smith, a wealthy private investor. Six years later, he joined Libaire Co. and set up its margin department. He helped found the Margin Clerks Association. Libaire Co.

"Red" Batson, 74, a' retired dispatcher, died Tuesday, Jan. 24, in Baton Rouge, La. Mr. Batson moved to Brevard County 36 years ago from his native Cornelia, Ga. He had worked for Central Truck Lines of Cocoa for 30 years.

He was a member of Merritt Island Masonic Lodge 353 and First Baptist Church of Cocoa. Survivors include his daughters, Judy Benesta of Baton Rouge and Brenda Taylor of Marietta, brothers, Cecil of Batson of Mariet ta and J.A. Batson, Gene Batson and Deward Batson, all of Cornelia; sisters, Betty Bell of West Palm Beach and Minne Lee Carpenter of Miami; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Calling hours are 4 to 8 p.m. today at Wylie-Baxley Funeral Home in Rockledge.

Services are at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. DAVID BEDFORD VERO BEACH David S. Bedford, 64, who owned and operated Bedford Chevron Service Station in Vero Beach for 14 years, died Wednesday, Jan. 25, at home.

Born in Orange, N.J., Mr. Bedford moved to Indian River County 18 years ago from Hanover, N.J. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the Vero Beach Yacht Club and the Vero Beach Boat Club. Survivors include his wife, Roma Bedford of Vero Beach; son, Daniel Bedford of Vero Beach; daughter, Patricia Kuhns of Vero Beach; brother, Fred Bedford of Vero Beach; sisters, Violet Gilman of Verona, N.J., and Doris Bedford of West Orange, N.J.; and five grandchildren.

CHARLOTTE CURRIER VERO BEACH Charlotte Moody Currier, 76, a homemaker, died Tuesday, Jan. 24, at Palm Gardens in Vero Beach. Mrs. Currier was born in Omaha, and moved to Indian River County 15 years ago from Wilmette, 111.

She was active in Kappa Kappa Gamma "Sorority, recently receiving her 50-year membership pin. She also was a member of Community Church United Church of Christ in Vero Beach. Survivors include her son, Frank Currier Jr. of Evanston, daughter, Nancy Bartel of Glendale, and two grandsons. No calling hours are scheduled.

CAROL FRENCH MERRITT ISLAND Carol Ann French, 44, a homemaker, died Tuesday, Jan.

Sand is piling up north of the inlet while the shoreline to the south is washing away. Similar projects are being considered for Port Canaveral and the Fort Pierce Inlet, said commission administrator Ray LeRoux. The system at Sebastian Inlet could cost at least $1.4 million to build.

LeRoux wants construction to start by the summer of 1990. At an annual meeting wherelo-cal public officials and citizens presented the delegation with requests for state money, delegation chairman Rep. Dale Patchett, R-Vero Beach, said a bypass system could be the answer to a longstanding problem of the inlet filling office. After the firm merged with Smith Barney about 1980, he worked as an account executive in its Morristown, office until April 1988, when he retired. Mr.

Redfearn moved to Brevard County in July 1988 after working 69 years in securities. He was a past commander of the American Legion post in South Orange, and a member of the Sons of the American Revolution. He established an endowment fund for St. Andrew's Holy Communion Episcopal Church in South Orange as finance chairman of its vestry. "He got a lot of pleasure doing his investment work for families, churches and the cemetery association in Elizabeth," said his daughter, Priscilla Elfrey of Cocoa Beach.

"He used his knowledge and experience of the market as a way to serve people. That's one reason he stayed in so long. He really enjoyed people." Other survivors include his son, G. Russell Redfearn of Cocoa Beach; daughter, Audrey Turner of Port St. Lucie; and six grandchildren.

No calling hours are scheduled. Memorial services are at 4 p.m. Saturday at St. David's By The Sea Episcopal Church in Cocoa Beach. Beckman-Williamson Funeral Home in Cocoa Beach is in charge of arrangements.

WILLIAM FUERST MIMS William John Fuerst, 81, a retired repairman, died Wednesday, Jan. 25, at Jess Parrish Memorial Hospital in Titusville. Mr. Fuerst, a Brevard County resident for seven years, had been self-employed as an air compressor repairman.

He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II and he attended St. Gabriel's Episcopal Church in Titusville. Survivors include his wife, Georgina Fuerst of Mims; daughter, Ann Fuerst of Mims; and sisters, Louise Giuffre of Seminole and Eleanor Dahlke of Stevens Point, Wis. No calling hours are scheduled.

"Bert" Hunnicutt, 68, a retired advertising account executive, died Tuesday, Jan. 24, at Jess Parrish Memorial Hospital in Titusville.

Mr. Hunnicutt was born in Ocala and moved to Brevard County 27 years ago from Leesburg. He worked for the Titusville Star-Advocate newspaper in the late 1960s and also was a former clerk for Brevard County small claims court. A 1943 graduate of the University of Florida, he was a member of St. Luke Presbyterian Church in Titusville.

Survivors include his wife, Letha Hunnicutt of Titusville; son, Greg Hunnicutt of Titusville; daughter, Dana Hunnicutt of Titusville; brother, Milton Hunnicutt Jr. of Hobe Sound; and sisters, Nell Connell of Pierson and Becky Polk of Leesburg. Friday at Lewis-Ray Mortuary in Titusville. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Titusville. JEANNEA MacKNIGHT MELBOURNE Dannett Jean-nea MacKnight, 27, a beautician, died Monday, Jan. 23, at home.

Mrs. MacKnight was a lifelong Brevard County resident who was born in Titusville and moved to Melbourne in 1972. She recently began working for MacAsphalt Inc. She attended Bowe Gardens Baptist Church in Melbourne. "She loved animals and everything outside," said her mother, Lynnet Lyons of Melbourne.

"She was always taking somebody in or taking in an animal, doing something to help somebody. She was everybody's friend." Other survivors include her husband, Kevin MacKnight of Satellite Beach; sons, Adam Ayers and Keith Ayers, both of Melbourne; father, Danny Lyons of Melbourne; brother, Gene Lyons of Melbourne; sister, Brenda Culp of Daytona Beach; paternal grandparents, Robert and Eva Lyons of Melbourne; and maternal grandmother, Hattie Harris of Titusville. Calling hours are 5 to 7 p.m. today at Davis Funeral Home in Melbourne. Services are at 2 p.m.

Brown was a World War II veteran and a member of the Masons American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was retired from American LaFrance Fire Engines. He was the oldest of 12 Survivors include his wife, Ethel F. Brown of Cocoa; two sons, George L. Brown and his fiance, Debra Sherman of Cocoa, and Philip F.

Brown and his wife, Diane of Rockledge; and daughter, Diane L. and her husband, Joseph Piazza of West Palm Beach, Florida.
