Page 2B Sunday, September 24,1995 The Segutn Gazette-Enterprise Seguln, Texas Alsup anniversary Sept. 14,1995, marked 50 years since Carl Austin Alsup took Lena Joyce Rotan to be his wife. A reception to honor this occasion was given the couple by their children and grandchildren on Sept. 15, 1995, at Canyon Lake. Children attending were Mac Raye, Carol Alsup, Linda Crockett, and Sherry Smith.

Five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren were also in attendance. Wedding attendant Novella Knox was on hand for the celebration. The decorations included family photos, ribbon, white table cloths and golden baskets filled with flowers. The cake was a three-tier white cake decorated with the bride and groom from the original wedding cake. The menu included sandwiches, sausage, vegetables, fruit and punch.

Knodel were married on Sept. 16,1995, at the First United Methodist Church in New Braunfels with Fred Martin officiating. Ceremony music was provided by soloist Allen Heinz and organist Florence Swoap. The bride is the daughter of Pat Banks of San Antonio and the granddaughter of Jack and Louise Hutton of Devine. The groom is the son of Mr.

and Mrs. Edgar Knodel of Seguin and the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Elley of Seguin. The matron of honor was Jacqueline Garcia of Colleyville.

The bridesmaids were Lizette Schultz, Jennifer Aldrich and Angie Brewster, all of San Antonio. The flower girls were Erin Nicole Garcia of Colleyville and Jenna Johnson of Seguin. The best man was Brian Smith of Derby, Kan. The groomsmen were Jason Voges of New Braunfels, Shane Schulz of Seguin and Allen Heinz of New Braunfels. The ringbearer was Leslie Johnson of Seguin.

The ushers were Phillip Elley and Michael Pompa, both of Seguin. Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the Knights of Columbus Hall in New Braunfels. Music was provided by Texas Nights. The bride attended Robert E. Lee High School in San Antonio, and the groom attended Universal Prep School.

Richard Gold Gold anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Richard Gold celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a trip to Branson, Mo. The Golds were married on Sept. 8,1945, at her parents' home in Walla Walla, Wash.

The couple's three children and their spouses are Rick and Carol Gold of San Bernardino, Marilyn and Larry Fizer of Houston and Kenneth and Joy Gold of Seguin. They have six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Maierhofer Wyatt wedding Cain Maierhofer and Wayne Wyatt were married on July 24,1995, at Holy Cross United Church of Christ in Yoakum with the Pastor Del Dolton officiating. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Willie Maierhofer of Seguin.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Wyatt of Yoakum and the grandson of Mrs. Frankie Wyatt of Cuero. The maid of honor was Brenda Maierhofer of Seguin, the bride's sister.

The bridesmaids were Eileen Gourley of Marion, Christie Collins of Seguin and Wendy Maierhofer of Seguin. The flower girls were the groom's nieces, Carly Wyatt of Yoakum and Kelly Wyatt of Austin. The best man was Peter Dunn of Stockdale. The groomsmen were Terry Wyatt of Austin, Charles Belcik of Yoakum and Wade Maierhofer of Seguin. The ringbearer was Coltin Maierhofer of Seguin.

The ushers were Will Eggert of Yoakum, Allen Migl of Sweet Home, Randy Zimmerman of Yoakum and John Pesek of Sweet Home. Following the ceremony, a reception was held at Turner Hall in Yoakum. Members of the house party were Diana Young, guest book; servers, Marie Mairhofer, Andrea Wyatt, Lori Smith, Connie Zimmerman, Sharon Keatley and Cindy Schrank. The bride, who carried an angel given to her by her sister, is a Seguin High School graduate. The groom is a Yoakum High School graduate.

He is employed as an equipment operator at G.V.E.C. in Gonzales. Following a trip to Mexico, the couple will reside in Gonzales. Eden School of Guadalupe holds last reunion The 15th, and last reunion of the Eden School of Guadalupe County was held at the Seguin- Guadalupe County Senior Citizens' Center's Silver Urn on Sept. 16, the last function to be held in the Silver Um, before the move to the new location in the 500 block of East Court Street. There were 44 students, spouses, teachers and guests in attendance. Marvin Fischer gave the invocation and Nola Naumann presided during the business meeting, which followed the meal, catered by the Frank Guenther staff.

The former teacher present was Juanita Tampke of Corpus Christi. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Niemeyer had sent regrets. Guests included, besides some of the spouses of ex-students, the following: Cynthia Dietz, Jeanette Dolle Dietz, Clifford Crenshaw, Neta Crenshaw, Lisa Bode, Nancy Doolittle, Carolyn Krueger Venglar, Dorine Bode, Franklin Bode, James Bode and Phyllis Bode.

Spouses who attended were Jack Stanley, Angie Henning, Evelyn Hoffman, Evelyn Neumann, Ruby Neumann and Lorine Krueger. Naumann conducted a memorial service for Grover Fischer, Lucille Kneupper, Ruby Krueger, Marvin Krueger and Raymond (Jimmy) Bode. Naumann's reading of the Eden School history prompted some interesting reminiscences. Fischer was reminded that a professor Fred (Fritz) Pape had been a teacher at the Eden School and had taught his sister, Irene Fischer Pape in 1909, He was also reminded that the Eden Community got its name from the Garden of Eden in the Bible of first settlers. Members present voted to discontinue holding Eden School reunions.

Fellowship was enjoyed after the meeting. Literacy Council to hold tutor training Oct. 6-7 The Guadalupe, Bexar and Comal County Literacy Council will be holding a training session for persons interested in tutoring non-readers or low-level readers. The 12-hour workshop will be held Friday, Oct. 6, from 5:30 to 9 and on Saturday, Oct.

7, from 8 to 3:30 at the Community Service Center, 132 Caddell New Braunfels. Edith Flathmann, a Laubach Literacy Trainer will provide the workshop- The non-reading or low-level adult has a need for privacy and the volunteer tutorial program is designed to respect that need. Tutoring sessions are on a one-to- one basis and are scheduled at a time and place convenient to both student and tutor. The reading program is individualized so that the non-reading or low-level adults can set and pursue their own goals. Tutors only need to have a high school diploma or a GED and be willing to work with an adult who wants to learn.

The Literary Council will provide the training. Preregistration deadline is Sept. 29. If you would like to tutor or know of an adult who has a need of the services of the Literary Council please call the council at Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The bride-to-be is the daughter of Vernon and Wilma Roberts of Kingsbury and the granddaughter of Mary Roberts of Three Rivers and Elva Rauch and the late David Rauch of Seguin.

She is a 1994 graduate of Seguin High School and attended the Victoria School of Nursing certified nurse aide program. She is employed at Home Health Care Solutions. The groom-to-be is the son of Bruce and Brenda Pape of Seguin and Paul and Janet Riley of Harlingen. He is the grandson of Orvel and Mary Ann Pape of Santa Anna, and the late Shorty and Alma Adair and Jess and Geneva Riley of Harlingen. He is a 1993 Seguin High School graduate and is employed with Di-Co Steel of San Antonio.
