died Thursday (Jan. 15, 1998) at his home. Born in Boston, MA he has lived in Windsor most of his life. Ax worked 24 years with Aero Space Metals in West Hartford, retiring in 1991 as a maintenance supervisor. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S.

Army. He belonged to the Raymond B. McHugh Post VFW No. 4740 of Windsor and the 16th Infantry Regiment Assoc. He leaves a daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Bill Papelian-Pfaffenbichler Jr of Windsor; a son and his fiancee, Michael Papelian of Windsor and Kirn Carnelli; his fiancee, Anita Piccirillo of Southwick, MA; a brother, Sarkis Papelian of Windsor; three sisters, Lucy and Margaret Papelian of Windsor, Agnes Kilmer of Eustis, FL; two grandchildren, Stephen A.

Pfaffenbichler of Windsor and Ashley Papelian of Old Lyme; a special buddy, Rocco Piccirillo of South Windsor; several nieces and newphews. He was predeceased by a son, daughter and sister, Stephen C. Papelian, Nancy Jean Papelian and Pauline Dlugozimia. Funeral services will be Saturday, (Jan 17), 10 a.m. in the chapel of the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Windsor.

Burial will follow in Palisado Cemetery, Windsor. His family will receive friends today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., and Saturday from 9-10 a.m., at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Poquonock Community Church, 1817 Poquonock Windsor 06095. PHILIPS, David E. David E.

Philips 71, of Antrim Road, Willimantic, husband of the 1 late Janet (Walker) Philips, died Wednesday morning (Jan. 14, 1998) at his home. He was born Aug. 30, 1926 in Wilkes-Barre, PA, the son of the late J. Evan and Edith (Stone) Philips.

He was a graduate of Haverford College, received his M.A. from Johns-Hopkins and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Philips was a professor of English at Eastern Ct.

State University from 1962 until his retirement in 1991. He explored the history and folklore of the state of Connecticut with great enthusiasm and was the author of the book LEGENDARY CONNECTICUT. He was well known around the state as a folklore storyteller and also authored the plaque recently installed at the Willimantic Foot Bridge, describing its' historical significance. Mr. Philips played a integral part in the planning and development of the soon to be built "Frog" bridge in Willimantic.

He was very active in WindhamWillimantic as a member of the Board of Education from 1 97 1 to 1 979, serving many years on the Democratic Town Committee, and as the Planning Commission Chairman. He was most recently involved in efforts to have Route 14 designated as a scenichistorical route. He had been a lifelong summer resident of Trenton, ME and was a contributing editor to Down East Magazine in Maine for 25 years. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and a lover of jazz.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law Evan and Sandra Philips of Windham Center, and Donald and Joanne Philips of Colchester, a daughter Kimberly Philips of Prince Frederick, MD, a brother and sister-in-law Robert and Barbara Philips of North Port, FL and two grandsons, Brian and Kevin. A Memorial Service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at The Shafer Auditorium, Eastern Connecticut State University, 83 Windham Willimantic. His family will receive friends at the auditorium one hour prior to the service. Kindly omit flowers.

Schmahl, 71, of West Granby, beloved husband of Roslyn (Steinberg) Schmahl, died Thursday (Jan. 15, 1998) at his home. Born in Germany, he had lived hi tfrcnby for over 40 years. He had in the U.S. Marine Corps during 'Vorlri War II.

Before retiring in 1 988. he was employed for 20 years as Vice President of Agency Development at the Phoenix Insurance Co. Besides his wife he leaves two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Elizabeth Schmahl of West Granby, Jeffrey and Carol Lee Schmahl of Burlington; a daughter, Lindy (Schmahl) Wood of Simsbury; five grandchildren, Rebecca Wood, Steven Wood, Jennifer Schmahl, Addie Schmahl and William Schmahl; a step-grandchild, Frazer Love. The Schmahl family will receive friends Saturday (Jan. 17), 4-6 p.m.

Born in Caguas, Puerto Rico to the late Benildo and Felipa (Lopez) Ramos. She is survived by her husband Carlos of Puerto Rico; five sons, Carlos Toro Ivan Toro, Baldimil Toro, Martin Vega, Pedro Ortiz; a daughter, Elizabeth Dillon all of Hartford; two brothers, Jose Ramos of Hartford and Felipe Ramos of Puerto Rico; six sisters, maria Ramos and Gloria Cotto both of PR; Lolita Ramos of Hartford, Isabelle Ramos Yolanda Ramos both of new York, Manuela Rodriguez of Philadelphia; 20 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren. Calling hours, today 5-9 p.m. Marie (Smith) Leary, 41, beloved wife of J. William Leary and devoted mother of daughters, Kathryn M. Leary and Alysa N. Leary, died peacefully at home in South Windsor, Wednesday (Jan.

14, 1998) after a courageous battle against cancer. She was predeceased by her infant son, William J. Leary. She is also survived by her parents, Thomas C. and Claire M.

(Squillacote) Smith, of Rocky Hill; brothers and sisters-in-law, Michael F. and Judith (Moreau) Smith of South Windsor and Thomas C. and Lori (Mazor) Smith, of Manchester; a sister, Patricia A. Smith of Las Vegas, NV. She was also dearly beloved by her devoted parents-in-law, Francis J.

and Sylvia K. Leary of Manchester and by her brother-in-law and his wife, Peter G. and Janice Leary of Cranston, Rl and by her sister-in-law and her husband, Berna-dette (Leary) and Randy Skelding of Manchester; special aunts, Berna-dette Keller of Manchester and Marjorie Cote of New Britain. She also leaves many other loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous devoted neighbors and friends. Born July 7, 1956 in Hartford, she was raised in Rocky Hill in a loving and happy home.

As a scholar she graduated with honors for both South Catholic High School in 1974 and Middlesex Community College in 1976. After earning her Associates Degree she was employed by the State of Connecticut Board of Education Services for the Blind until 1986. Her true calling in life was that of stay at home mother and she excelled at this for the remainder of her life. Despite her long battle with cancer she loved life, faced each day with great happiness and joy and treated others with generosity and kindness. No matter how great her personal suffering, she made an extraordinary commitment to provide a healthy, normal, and happy childhood for her children.

She will be remembered by all she touched as a truly special person. Her strength and fortitude have been an inspiration to all who knew her. She will be dearly missed by all, but especially by her husband, who has loved and learned by her side for over 16 years. (Verrilli) Dorothy F. (Verrilli) Muni, 89, of South Glastonbury widow of Maurice Muni, died Thursday (Jan. 15, 1998) at a local convalescent home. Born in Hartford daughter of the late Donato and Carmella Verilli she had lived in South Glastonbury for the past 5 years. Prior to her retirement in 1973 she was a secretary at the Travelers Insurance Co.

She is survived by her niece, Gloria D. Agnellino of South Glastonbury with whom she made her home with; a nephew, Lucian D. Agnellino and his wife Carmela of Glastonbury; her grandniece, Linda Warner and her husband John of South Glastonbury. Funeral and burial will be private. There are no calling hours.

The Mulryan Funeral Home, Glastonbury has care of arrangements. NEWCOMB, Harley F. Harley F. Newcomb, 87, formerly of Eastfield Street, Manchester, died Thursday (Jan. 15, 1998) at a local convalescent home.

Born in South Windsor, CT March 21, 1910, he was a lifelong resident of Manchester. Harley was a veteran of World War II, receiving the Purple Heart while serving in the 43rd Division of the US Army, and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. Prior to retiring he had been employed by the former Meyer-Men-delson accounting firm. He is survived by sisters, Hazel F. Newcomb of Manchester and June Finlay of Dallas, TX; a brother, Elliott Newcon 'j of Tolland; eleven nieces and nep'iews, and eleven grandnieces and cand-nephews.

Funeral services w'll be Tuesday (Jan. 20) 11:30 a.m. at the Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main Street, Manchester. Burial will be in the Buckland Cemetery, Manchester. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 2 to 4 p.m.

PINNONE, Mary (Gallo) Mary (Gallo) Pinnone, 82, of Florida, formerly of Hartford, wife of the late Angelo Pinnone, died Saturday (Jan. 1 0, 1 998) at her home in Florida.

Born in Hartford on the old east side she lived in Hartford all her life moving to Florida in 1 995. She was retired from the former Underwood Typewriter Co. and was a member of the South End Senior Citizens, Barry Square Senior Citizens, and a member of AARP for many years. She is survived by a son Vincent S. Pinnone and his companion, Christine Bycz-kiewicz, a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Joseph H.

Trust, all of Port Orange, Florida, a brother; Sal-vatore "Toot" Gallo of East Hartford; five grandchildren; Tsani "Sandi" Sar-nese and her husband Richard of West Hartford, Vincent S. Pinnone Jr. and his wife Denise of Long Beach CA, Anthony D. Pinnone and his wife Audrey of Marlborough, Denise Jensen of Port Orange FL, and Joseph D. Trust of East Hartford, and seven great grandchildren.

She was prede ceased by a sister and four brothers. Funeral service will be Saturday Jan. 17 at 8:15 a.m. from the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Wethersfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. from St.

at the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel. Henry F. Graczyk, 77, of Rockville, husband of Anna (Golemba) Graczyk, died Thursday (Jan. iqqsi at a local convales cent home. He was born in Rockville and was a lifelong resident.

Before his retirement Mr. Graczyk was employed at Pratt Whitney Aircraft for 32 years. He was an army veteran of World War II, and a communicant of St. Joseph Church. Besides his wife he is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law David and Dawn Graczyk of Vernon, Richard Graczyk and his friend Carol of Manchester; his sisters Catherine Graczewski of Enfield, Jennie Brown of Manchester, Jane Pan-tenella of Vernon, Lucy Knybel of Ellington; his brother Walter Graczyk of Windsor Locks; and 6 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Saturday at with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in St. Joseph Church. Burial, with full military honors, will be in St. Bernard Cemetery.

The Burke-Fortin Funeral Home 76 Prospect St. Rockville has charge of arrangements. KAMINSKY, William J. William J. Kaminsky, 71, of Coven try, formerly of Manchester, husband of Lois (Wadleigh) Kaminsky, died Wednesday, (January 14, 1998) at Manchester Memorial Hospital.

He was born July 17, 1926 in Manchester, son of the late Joseph and Flora (Lemme) Kaminsky, and was a resident of Manchester, attending local schools before moving to Coventry in the 1950's. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving on the aircraft carrier USS Na-toma Bay and was a Disabled Combat Veteran and the recipient of the Purple Heart. He graduated from the University of Connecticut with a degree in Forestry. Bill was the owner and operator of Randee Heating Service of Manchester for over 45 years.

He was a member of the U.S.S. Na-toma Bay Association, the V.F.W. Post 2046, the American Legion Post 102, and a former member of the Nut Growers Assn. of CT. Besides his wife, Lois, he is survived by three sons, William J.

Kaminsky II of Coventry, Kraig W. Kaminsky and his wife Anne-Marie of Manchester, Mark L. Kaminsky and his wife Cindi of Enfield, a brother, Joseph Kaminsky Jr. of Coventry and two step-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Monday, 10:30 AM at Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main Street, Manchester.

LITTLEFIELD, Enid (Mills) Enid (Mills) Littlefield, 76, of East Hartford, passed away Wednesday (Jan. 14, 1998) at Manchester Memorial Hospital.

Born in Skowhegan, ME. She had worked as a hairdresser in the Waterville and Belgrade Lakes area. She then moved to East Hartford where she resided for 46 years and was employed by Pratt and Whitney and retired from the State of Connecticut Attorney General's Office. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Carl O. Littlefield and leaves her daughter Sharon Pendola of E.Hftd; two grandchildren Jennifer Pendola of E.Hftd and Matthew Pendola of San Diego, two sisters-in-law Mrs.

Elaine Marino of West Springfield, MA and Mrs. Louise We-sinburn of Orange City, FL; and many friends and relatives. A memorial service will be Thursday, Jan. 22, 2 p.m., at Faith Community Church, Pigeon Hill Road, Windsor. Burial will be at Rose Hill Memorial Park at the con-vience of the famlily.

Those who wish may make donations to the American Lung Association, 45 Ash East Hartford 06108. LLOYD, Ruth B. Ruth B. Lloyd, 84, died Wednesday (Jan. 14, 1998) at Gladeview Health Care Center, Old Saybrook.

She was the widow of Harry R. Lloyd and they resided for many years in Manchester. They had celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. Before her retirement she was an executive secretary at Lydall, Inc. She was a member of AARP Chapter 2399 and a past president of the Perennial Planters Garden Club.

There will be a memorial service at Community Baptist Church, 585 East Center Manchester at 2 p.m. on Saturday, (Jan. 17). In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Visiting Nurse and Home Care of Manchester. The Robinson, Wright Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Centerbrook is in charge of arrangements.

MARTIN, Joanne Willcox Joanne Willcox Martin, 75, of Plymouth, VT passed away Wednesday, (Jan. 14, 1998). She was born Aug. 23, 1922 in Montpelier, VT, the daughter of Julius Abner and Ann Brown Willcox. Mrs.

Martin was a 1 939 graduate of Rutland High School and a 1943 graduate of the University of New Hampshire and received her Master's Degree from the Central Connecticut University. She was a teacher at St. Margaret's in Waterbury and Somers High School in Somers. She was married to her first husband until his death in 1985. She later married Albert W.

Martin of Plymouth, VT. Survivors include her second husband, Albert W. Martin of Plymouth, VT; two sons, Steven Willcox Hathaway of Fairfield, IA and Edwin B. Hathaway of Los Angeles, CA; a daughter, Nancy Hathaway Steenberg of Mystic; a step-daughter, Mary Martin Halcomb of Reno, NV and a step-son, Steven A. Martin of Rutland, VT; five grandsons and six granddaughters.

Everett H. Everett Jackson, 69, of Meredith, NH and Lady Lake, FL, formerly of Portland, CT died Tuesday, (Jan. 13,1998) in Lady Lake. He grew up in Portland and resided there until 1 977. He was the son or the late Ejnar A.

and Ruth (Strong) Jackson. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary Jane Penfield Jackson, who also is a native of Portland. He is also survived by a son, David and his wife Linda of Hebron, CT; a daughter, Susan and her husband Edward Fitzgerald of Dover, MA; and a daughter, Barbara and her husband Douglas (Gus) Jenkins of Meredith, NH. Also, a brother Warren and his wife, Jewel of Glastonbury, CT; and a sister, Eleanore and her husband, Walter Knott of Hilton Head, SC. Everett and Mary Jane have seven grandchildren Bryan, Paul, and Kevin Jackson Matthew and Michael Fitzgerald, Nicole and Elizabeth Jenkins and many nephews and nieces.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served from 1946-1948. He graduated from Bryant College in Providence, Rl in 1951. His business career included positions as Treasurer of Jarvis Corporation in Middletown; partner of The Gammons Hoaglund Co. in Manchester.CT and owner, with his wife, of Oak Hill Golf Club in Meredith, NH.

He was an over 50 year member of the First Congregational Church in Portland. Final arrangements will be announced at a later date. JOSEPH, Shirley (Gastman) Shirley (Gastman) Joseph, 94, of West Hartford died Wednesday, (Jan. 14, 1998) at a local convalescent home. She was the widow of Judge Irving "Chick" Joseph. Born in Brooklyn, NY, she lived in Bristol most of her life. Mrs.

Joseph was the retired owner of the former Bristol Collection Agency of Bristol. She was a member of Beth Israel Synagogue of Bristol and the Synagogue Sisterhood. She was also a member of Ha-dassah, the Bristol Democratic Town Committee, SES at the Jewish Community Center, and she did volunteer work at the Jewish Community Center and for Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford. She leaves three daughters, Michele Bass and her husband. Dr.

Kenneth of Dallas, TX, Suzanne Rolnick and her husband Gerald of West Caldwell, NJ, and Carol Cohen and her husband Bernie of West Hartford; seven grandchildren, Dr. Ivy Mitcham and her husband Michael, Dr. Robert Bass and his wife Sally, Sandra Bass, Jennifer Rolnick, Andrew Rolnick, Jodi Cottiero and her husband Michael, and David Cohen and his wife Lauren; and four great grandchildren, Megan Mitch-am, Matthew Mitcham, Melanie Bass, and Alexander Joseph Bass. (Plourde) Allard, of Oxford Drive, East Hartford died Wednesday (Jan.

14, 1998) at St. Francis Hospital. The wife of the late Maurille O. Allard, she had been a resident of East Hartford for over 30 years. To all she knew and loved, she was a woman of exemplary courage, faith, inspiration; never losing her Smile and optimism even through the darkest moments of trial.

A post-polio survivor, she displayed much courage and example despite challenges given, living as normal a life above and beyond her limitations. Her legacy of the will remain with all who knew her as "Mom" and as a friend. God blessed us for having given us the gift of the person that she was. Plourde of Plainville, George R. Plourde and Leon Plourde both of New Britain, Guy N. Plourde of South Windsor; two sisters, Marcella Bour-goin of Madawaska, ME, and Sylvia Lavoie of Windsor.

She was pre-de-ceased by three brothers, Arthur 0. Plourde, Emery Plourde, Rene Flourde; and a sister, Jeannine Plourde, the last two having passed on in childhood. Special thanks to Dr. AN Imran Hashmi and Dr. N.

Chandra Narayanan for their care and support throughout. Funeral service will be Monday, (Jan. 19), 9:15 a.m. from the Mulryan Funeral Home, 2534 Main Glastonbury followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in the Blessed Sacremant Church, East Hartford.

Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Hartford. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday (Jan. 18), 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.. In lieu of flowers Masses would be appreciated or memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

BUCKLAND, Irene (Skelly) Irene (Skelly) Buckland, 96, formerly of West Avon Road, Avon, widow of Oliver C. Buckland, died Wednesday, (Jan. 14, 1998). Born in South-wick, MA, she lived in South New-fane, VT and then Avon for many years. She was a member of the Avon Garden Club and the African Violet Society.

She leaves her daughter, Marjorie P. Wilson of West Suffield; two grandsons, Ralph H. Pinney Jr. of New Hartford, Lawrence W. Pinney of Canton; and a great grandson Andrew J.

Pinney of Mooresville, NC. The funeral will be Saturday, 1 p.m. at the Nicholson Carmon Funeral Home, 443 East St. (Rt 159), Suffield. Burial will be private in Zion Hill Cemetery, Suffield.

Doiron, died Thursday (Jan. 15, 1998) at Parkway Pavilion.

Aurilie was born January 2, 1904 in Cabana Providence of Quebec, Canada and moved to Enfield from Hartford in 1964. Aurilie is survived by her three sons, Joseph Doiron of East Windsor, Henry Jr. and his wife Beverly Doiron of Port St. Lucy, FL, Gerard and his wife Sandra Doiron of Stuart, FL; two daughters, Nancy and her husband Robert Barry of Enfield, Marie Claire and her husband Robert Pouech of Enfield; 17 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be Monday, 10:30 a.m.

He was a computer consultant at GTE; formerly with Pratt and Whitney Aircraft; a consultant to the Environmental Protection Agency. He served as a Medic, US Army 1st Division, Light Horse Military Batallion in Vietnam. He is survived by his parents, William S. Dorothy Bowers of Venice, FL; a daughter, Carrie Lee Bowers of North Haven, a son Jeffrey Deane Bowers of Middletown and a brother, William S. Bowers of Venice, FL.

Internment will be at Maplewood Cemetery, Norwich, CT. A military graveside service will be held at a later date. DEAN Stuart, Robinson Stuart Robinson Dean, 85, of Bay-side Manor, Keansburg, NJ, on Friday (Jan. 9, 1998). He lived in Rocky Hill for over 50 years before moving to Keansburg 7 months ago.

He was an experimental Inspector for 30 years at Pratt Whitney Aircraft, East Hartford and and has been retired for 20 years. He was a member of the Lyons Club of Rocky Hill, the Rocky Hill Congregational Church, and a graduate of Syracuse University, Class of 1937. 15,1998) at UConn Medical Center in Farmington. She was born in West Hartford, daughter of the late John and Julia (Paganela) Maschi, and lived in the West Hartford area for most of her life, before moving to Avon in 1981. She was a Buyer for Anemostat before raising her family in 1948. Member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, West Hartford, Shuffle Meadow Country Club, Kensington and Farmington Women's Club, Farmington. Besides her husband, she is survived by her daughters, Hollis Fitch Kessler, Lorna Broucek and Elizabeth Aaronson; four grandchildren, Jeremy Broucek, Michael, David and Emily Aaronson.

Memorial Service will be Saturday, Jan. 17, 1 p.m. from Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2080 Boulevard, West Hartford. There are no calling hours. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Taylor Mo-deen Funeral Home, 136 S. Main West Hartford has care of arrangements. GOLAS, Mary (Wylot) Mary (Wylot) Golas, 79, of Newing-ton, formerly of New Britain, died Wednesday (Jan. 14, 1998) at New Britain General Hospital. She was the widow of Joseph Golas.

Born in New Britain, Mrs. Golas was a Newington resident for the past 25 years and was a member of Sacred Heart Church, New Britain, and its Ladies Guild. She was formerly employed by Northeast Utilities and previously by Landers, Frary Clark. A beloved mother and sister, Mrs. Golas is survived by her son, Noel Golas of Newington; a brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Florence Wylot of Plainville; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Helen Kulak of New Britain, Irene and Leonard Borkowski of Newington; three sisters-in-law, Rosalie Samek, Stasia Ma-jewski, Franny Golas all of New Britain; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Saturday, 9:15 a.m. from the Burritt Hill Funeral Home, 332 Burritt New Britain followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, New Britain. Relatives and friends are invited to call Friday, 5-8 p.m.
