Actually, that's Fresh Air, as in the fascinating, literate weekday interview show with host Terry Gross of WHYY-FM (90.9). Fresh Air has been a popular -fixture on Philadelphia public radio for almost 14 years now, airing from 4 to 5 p.m.

Mondays through Fridays and repeated from 7 to 8 p.m., except Fridays. But in the year and a half since Gross and Fresh Air went national over 150 stations, Fresh Air's weekly audience has almost tripled, from 364,000 weekly listeners to 941,000 certainly an impressive gain given the show's modest promotions budget- Philadelphia remains the city where Fresh Air is most popular; but Boston is fast gaining on Fresh Air also has found large audiences in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Chicago. (New York is expected to catch up once WNYC-AM, which carries the show, Static On Wednesday, classical station WFLN-FM (95.7) will host a special on-air benefit from 8 to 10 p.m. for Settlement Music School, with proceeds going to scholarship money for needy and talented students. infant but instead is eyed by Danny, who drills a hole to watch her strip for a shower. In less than a minute, she uses the same hole to watch him take h(s clothes off, and sees even more than he did. Meanwhile, the soundtrack blares the "Oh song used in the limo scene of The Secret of My Success and in NBC's tasteless Nightingales TV ads. Live-In is even more tasteless, if that's possible; the only redeeming moment is the title se-; quence, which imitates an MTV video remake of "Happy Together." CBS. Heartland p.m., 10) This new series is better than Live-In, but worse than just about anything else on the air, so everything's relative.

This is even worse, come to think of it, than Everything's Relative, another CBS flop sitcom of recent vintage. This one stars Brian Keith, returning to -the weekly sitcom business for the first time since family Affair, as "a crusty but lovable small-town bigot" who lives with his daughter; her "husband and their three kids on a Nebraska farm. Yes, it's supposed to be Archie Bunker on the Farm, but forget it. The dialogue manages to insult a lot of professions and ethnic groups, but the lack of intelligence in the script should insult everyone. With these two shows leading off the prime- time week, CBS deserves to lose the night, the season and any lingering reputation as a "quality" network.

CBS. Desperadoi Avalanche at Devil's Ridge (9-11 p.m., Ch. 3) Lonesome Dove hits it big in the ratings, so the networks, which ignored westerns for about 20 years, suddenly can't make them quickly enough. NBC isn't even waiting: Instead, it's repeating this 1988 telemovie, the most recent starring Alex McArthur as reluctant sunfighter Duell McCall. It's rather entertaining but it's no Lonesome Dove.

NBC. iThe Women of Brewster Place (9-n p.m, Ch.6) Part 2 of i The climax of this ABC mini-series takes a dream sequence from Gloria Naylor's novel and treats it literally, which robs the ending, and the whole story, of Radio, paid dues and then could, choose at. no charge from the plethora of NPR Gradually, however, npk is lowering stations' dues fee in favor of charging a la carte, in a for programming.
