Page 14 Pharos-Tribune, Logansport, indiono, Tuesday, April 12.1988 Arafat Predicts Hijacking Of Kuwaiti Jet To End Soon Arafat LARNACA, Cyprus (AP) The Arab hijackers of a Kuwaiti jetliner said today they have named their aircraft "the plane of greatest martyrdom and death" and claimed they have put on death shrouds. One hijacker made the declaration in a statement radioed to Larnaca Airport control tower. He cited Koranic verses usually read at funerals that said "those killed in the name of God are always alive." PLO chairman Yasser Arafat, meanwhile, was quoted today as saying the hijackers want to fly to Algeria and "arrangements are being made to this end." The Kuwait News Agency said Arafat told reporters in Kuwait he expected the hijacking to end tonight. And Cypriot government spokesman Akis Fantis said the chances of storming the plane at Larnaca were "zero." At one point today, the hijackers radioed the control tower demanding the plane be refueled in 45 minutes. The deadline passed without incident after the Palestine Liberation Organization chief in Cyprus and his deputy went out on the tarmac and spoke with the hijackers.

One hijacker later radioed that they had extended the deadline "for 3 short time to permit the mediators to act" in getting the plane refueled. "We are warning against false promises," he said in broken English. When a C-130 military transport landed a short time later, one of the hijackers screamed over the radio: "Identify this plane." The tower replied it was a Greek air force plane carrying supplies and was "nothing to worry about." The hijacker, his voice calming, replied: "My men were about to shoot at it." Earlier today, the hijackers of the Kuwait Airways Boeing 747, who shot and killed a second passenger Monday, again threatened the lives of their nearly 50 hostages. The hijackers are demanding Kuwait free 17 convicted terrorists and have said they want to leave for an unspecified "neutral country." The hijackers are armed with grenades and handguns. They have repeatedly threatened to blow up the plane since the hijacking began a week ago.

The hijackers' statement today indicated, as had been suspected, that the gunmen are Shiite Moslems. The statement said "hail the glory of Imam Mahdi," the messiah-like holy person Shiites believe will one day appear on earth. Police Question Man In Girl's Death FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) A man quizzed by police in the slaying of 8-year-old April Marie Tinsley has been charged in an unrelated child molesting incident, officials said. Allen County Prosecutor Stephen M.

Sims authorized informally holding Everett Dwayne "Moose" Shull 34, about 11 p.m. Monday. Shull has not been identified as a suspect in the Tinsley case, police said. "We have not eliminated anyone (as a suspect). We have not cut off anyone with information," Master Sgt.

Steven Butz, a police spokesman, said late Monday. Butz said police interviewed Shull and five or six of his friends, family, and acquaintances Monday. The molesting Shull was accused of occurred last October involving an 11-year-old girl, police said. Shull was taken by police from his Fort Wayne home to detective headquarters about 3:10 p.m. Monday.

He did not resist when police met him at his home and asked him to go with them. "There were several pieces of information received that led us to believe he (Shull) is an important person to talk to," said Paul R. Cherry, DeKalb County prosecutor. "We believe that investigators have made good progress over the last days. We're on the right track to hopefully solving the case." The child was abducted near her home in Fort Wayne April 1 and found dead near Spencerville in DeKalb County three days later.

Authorities said she had been sexually molested and died from suffocation. Last week, witnesses who said a man forced April into a blue pickup truck the day she disappeared enabled police to produce a composite drawing of the man.
