The limit gains included wheat future..' a 20 cents a bushel; corn 10 cents; oats 6 cents and soybean oil 100 points. Soybeans had moved UP Ihe limit of 30 cents then fell back under profit-taking. Soybean meal advanced iust short of its J10 a ton limit and closed iust a shade, under the top. Iced broilers were steady to . about' 1 ; -cent a pound 1 higher. . All Ihe pits had been sharply lower on the opening, because the government reported it expected more acreage this year n soybeans' and in' grain sorghums than last year but a little less acreage in corn a though it 'would still produce a record crop. However, an international wheal group reported there could be less wheat in the 'world this year than had been expected and, there was renewed talk -again o lifting hie limited export controls on farm products. The wheat and export controls items appeared to outweigh the government report and prices fumed around · sharply. On the rebound, short covering was at a ranfic pace. There was mixed trade on Ihe opening but the short covering and stop-loss sell- ng apparently knocked out much of the public. i Gold futures were steady to about {7 higher but improved slightly to close t3 hgher in.the last few mmutes. At Ihe close, wheat- futures were 18 lo 20 cents a bushel higher, March 3.98; soybeans were 13 to 70 higher, March £.05; corn! was, 9V: to 10 higher, March 3,12'* and oats were 6 higher. This new protection is in the Real Estate Settle- ·ment Procedures Act, signed by President Ford late last .year and due to become effective by late June of this year It is a welcome new protection indeed -- a measure designed to safeguard us .from the often unexpected and staggering crunch of closing costs and due to eliminate the all too common nightmarish situation in which millions of us have been all set to sign final papers on a house when we suddenly are notified that we must pay estimated closing costs ranging from several hundred to several thousands · of dollars and that we have just a few days to come lip with the cash. Covered 1 are all federally guaranteed mortages, a giant share of mortgages written in this country. The law also applies to condominium and co-op units as well as single-family dwellings. Moreover, to help you understand the reason behind various closing costs, the law directs the Department of Housing and Urban Development to prepare a booklet, explaining and describing common settlement charges. This publication will be distributed to lenders, who in turn must give it to you -- the buyers and sellers. You also have other protections in real estate transactions for the first time. Specifically, the law: -- Prevents a lender from requiring you to put more than one month's worth of deposits into an escrow account for property taxes or insurance. Until DOW-JONES AVERAGES .
