He was offered the athletic director's job at Arizona State, i.;but turned it down because of a contract-severance problem at "-California. By BOB KEMP Citizen SporUwriler Jim Anders, heavyweight wrestler for Santa Rita High School, has come a long way in four years. As a freshman Anders had a losing record in wrestling. But he is undefeated this year and has scored 20 pins in the 21 matches he's wrestled. Last weekend Anders won the heavyweight championship in the AAA-Southern Division championship, which was the third tournament he's won this year. For his efforts Anders has been named the Tucson Daily Citizen Prep Athlete of the Week. "He has really come a long way," said Anders* wrestling coach Larry Rogge. "Most of it is attributed to hard work. "He's very quick for his size, which is probably the Anders won the Flowing Wells Invitational and the Tucson District tourney this year in addition to the AAA- Southern Division. In those tournaments he pinned all 11 wrestlers he faced. Anders also scored a pin against the Japanese High School Ail-Star wrestling team when they were in Arizona last month. Anders is also a great team leader, according to Rogge. "He's shown dedication because he has been helping coach the freshman team all year," said Rogge. "He's done that for two hours each day on his own free time when he could have been doing something else. "One of the reasons he's best thing he has going for scored so many pins is be- him since most heavyweights cause he's a smart wrestler aren't that quick. He's also once he gets his opponent tremendously strong." down," Rogge added.
