Area Report Cass County Officers Get New Guns Officers in the Cass County Sheriff's Department will be carrying new Austrian sidearms. The weapons are the same guns used by the Miami, Fla., Police Department. Sheriff Ron Woolley said Tuesday that the weapons, the Clock 9-milimeter pistol, will enable deputies to carry a gun that's more lightweight than the county's old Smith & Wesson guns. Woolley said another advantage of the gun is that it will allow officers to carry up to 52 rounds of ammunition at a time. The old guns limited officers to only 18 rounds. Full-time officers in the department traded in their old guns at a cost of $2,400 to the department. Nine reserve officers also purchased guns for their own use. The guns are the same weapons that will be used by the Logansport Police Department. The guns also are being used by the Goshen Police Department. Woolley said officers had noticed some malfunctions recently with the old Smith & Wesson weapons and said that tests indicate the new Clock guns do not malfunction and are easier to load, unload and clean. Woolley said officers in the department will be training on the county's shooting range with the new weapons.
