WASHINGTON--Hiring of » "dirty word" poet by a local' poverty war organization was! denounced i n C o n g r e s s Wednesday by Rep. Charles Gubser, R-Calif. Gubber rapped the hiring hy the Santa Clara County Economic Opportunities Commission, a community action group, of a youth who he said had written a "perverted" poem about the President. The congressman read into the record an article in the I San Jose (Calif.) Mercury- News by political editor Harry T. Farrell which said the; group had hired as a hospital aide a youth who had published a poem attacking the administration's V i e t N a m policy. The article said the poem was an allegory based on a sexual perversion. FARRELL'S story said the editor of the periodical which published the poem also had been hired, as a poverty war program Boy Scout adviser. The publication was said to be an off-campus periodical j aimed at San Jose State Col-; lege students. : "It's disgusting and shocking that a person who would! w r i t e ' s u c h perverted poetry demanding the President of the United Stales should be, allowed to e a r n taxpayers'; money in the war on poverty." said Gubser, who invited male congressmen and newsmen to view the verse in his office. The newspaper article said the poet had been hired by the poverty group after his ode was published in February, and the editor was on the payroll last summer. . * * f GUBSER said the organization has been infiltrated by "left-w i n g extremists" who have created an upheaval that led last month to the firing of the group's director. The congressman said that n week ago he asked poverty war chief Sargent Shriver for a Washington-based investigation""^ the Santa C l a r a County program. "I have heard nothing at all from him since then," Giihser said. Iron Miner Killed as Shaft Caves In ELY. Minn.
