8-8--INDEPENDENT (AM) PRESS-TELEGRAM (PM) an t 'wj "PJJ "em '«»*« *m PARENTS AND CHILDREN Honest admission of errors paves way to maturity By ARNOLD ARNOLD 1 remember very \vpll what being a child is like. The worst of it is that you have to figure so much of life oul for yourself. People are always telling ynu, "On Uiis. Don't do that." But they usually don't explain why. That's what makes it so tough. It's fair enough, trying to do things your own way. as long as ii works. But some people go through their whole lives butting their heads against stone walls. They never learn how 10 make things work for themselves. Take the matter of owning up to your goofs. Everybody makes a mess of things now and then. But you feel as though it were, right a f t e r you've done something really stupid. Then you may be templed to pretend lo yourself, your friends, teachers, parents or hoss, t h a t it wasn't really your f a u l t , or that there was a good reason for your mistake. This may make you feel momentarily good about yourself. But it never works. You know better, and so does everyone else. It's not even a question of lying. If you offer some Active Assisteens auxiliaries converge on Convention Center idiocy as an excuse, everyone will think that it's necessary to keep reminding you. They'll believe that you really don't know that you loused things up, or that you honestly think there's a good reason for your doing what you should have known was wrong. SO ITS UP TO YOU to make things work for yourself. Consider the people who are likely to face you with the consequences of your mistake. Face them with a frank admission of your error. Never mind the excuses. They'll be so surprised at your mature a t t i t u d e that you'll get off scot-free, more often than not, just by ad- m i l t i n g your error before you are found out, and by offering no excuse except human frailty. 1 know it works. 1 do it myself. The spirit and enthusiasm of 28 Assisteens auxiliaries will come together Saturday at the Anaheim Convention Center for the Sixth Annual Assisteens Assembly. Newport Beach Assisteens will be hostesses to more than 600 representatives from New Mexico, Colorado, Washington and California. Highlights of the day's events include guest speaker Judge Bruce Sum- ner, California Superior Court Judge and Judge of Orange County Juvenile Court. Local .Assisteens from the Assistance League of Long Beach attending the assembly include Stephanie Webb, Peggy Egan, Su- ?.ie Scott and Nancy Albin. Reese, Jack Grisham, Gene Dreckman and David Eagleson. ·BRING THIS COUPON^^^^"""""^ CASCADES $ 8 9S WAREHOUSE CLEARANCE SALE 100% HUMAN HAIR Hand-Tied Stretch Wigs, ,-:' -~V $200 Value 45.00 X.Av--^ Hand-Tied Wigs, $90 Value .. 24.95 : ^ Machine-Tied Wigs, $55 Value 11.95 «*," Falls, $55 Value 19.95 ;. There may be no drug capable of killing viruses, but when the Doctor attends someone with a sore throat the patient forgets much of what he has read about the limitations of medicine. "The Doctor is here. He is going to examine and treat me, and I will be all right." Among the things your physician can do is to prescribe medications calculated to give you symptomatic improvement and to prevent bacterial complications. Being a conscientious scientist, he often wishes he could prescribe a specific treatment in every case, but he does a commendable job in giving the patient the benefits of the very latest drugs that are available at the time. The medication ordered, together with the FAITH that the Doctor inspires, helps tip the balance in favor of the patient's recovery. ELY ON YOUR FRIENDLY _ PHARMACIST... Long Beach Drug Co.
