"Members Securitfea Investor Protection Corporation" Jurors Chosen For Animal Cruelty Trial ROCHESTER - A six- member pettit jury and one alternate were selected Monday in Fulton County Court for the trial of Betty Jane Baker, a rural Fulton County woman charged with cruelty to animals. Baker, 69, was arrested Feb. 14, 1987 by Fulton County Sheriff Rich McLochlin after Elkhart and Fulton County Humane Society officials responded to reports that Baker allegedly was not properly feeding or caring for 26 Arabian horses she raised on her 62-acre farm southeast of Rochester. She was released the same day on her own recognizance and returned to her farm in time to see horsemen and humane society officers, under court order, loading her horses into trailers to transport them to other farms. Baker has denied all charges. She said she has been raising horses for 45 years. During the past year, some of Baker's friends and neighbors purchased some of the horses. Some of the horses were returned to Baker to board because the buyers were unable to keep them. The court is scheduled to reconvene at 8:30 a.m. today. Special Judge Dean Colvin of Plymouth will hear the case. James 0. Wells is Baker's attorney. Fulton County Deputy Prosecutor William Tuley-Welch represents the state.
