NEW YORK UPl - The modern dance works of ( h e l a i e choreographer Doris Humphrey, who is considered one of the seminal forces of the American modern dance mbvemenl, are to be revived by the Jose Limpn Dance Company over .the next several years. The first revival will be "Night Spell," seen here during a season at the YM-YWHA. Limon was .a s t u d e n t of M i s s H u m - phrey's, and began his ca-' recr as a dancer in her company. Wickit|f,f)0, who "likes to ridqSpij trains," has built a Ijjicjk 550 feet long which winds through the trees otffthe two-acre lot where he;' 1 ' lives. As his neighbors sit by their swimming pools, they wave to Wickett chugging past on his small air- driven locomotive. As a youth, Wickett worked as a-track cleaner at a mine where he vowed to operate»his own engine somedajL · He got the chanceSS?n the Homestake MiSln South Dakota retiSff.itwo air-motor locomogSs; along with a set of sK'ofe hauling cars altered to seat 24 passengers. WICKETT bought the engines and cars and had them transported -- by rail -- to his home: . He was assisted in the backbreaking job of laying the narrow 18-inch gauge .track Menlo students. They bent steel rails into curves and sawed by hand to make the narrow ties out of standard widths. WicKett notes that the air-propelled engine is pollution-free. ' "There's no smoke," he says. A . large air compressor provides the "fuel." "I bring my students out here for two reasons," Wickett says. "The air motor provies my physics students with a demonstration of the second law of thermodynamics -illustrating that a heat engine need not operate at elevated temperatures, though the efficiency is poor -- and my surveying students come out, with transits, to do topographical studies." THE LOCOMOTIVES have "magnificent whistles," Wickett says, but he blows them only on special occasions. "I blew the whistle at noon last Fourth of July, and children came from everywhere for rides," he recalls. "It was like the Pied Piper."
