Lath, Plaster Reduce Weight in Fire-Proofing "In addition to outstanding fireproofing, weights of floor and ceiling construction may be substantially r e d u c e d through employment of membrane fireproofing," it was reported by a research-construction expert- of the Southern California Plastering Institute. This is important to architects and- cnigneers concerned with the weights of steel girders and other heavy structural members in the building.' In the case of floors, more floor beams are used, but they . are 'much lighter in weight than other commonly used materials, The construction of floors with membrane fireproofing, employing lath and plaster, 'reduces weight by as much as 35 per cent while costing only 73 per cent as much as other types of materials. The Institute points out, "That 27 per cent saving represents a-great deal of money when translated into volume building and the truly outstanding fact is that fireproofing is substantially increased."
