Class 1A St. Anne 67, Nokomls 61: St. Anne made amends for a terrible ending to its regular season by capturing the 1A championship with a 67-61 victory over Nokomis. Warrensburg-Latham defeated Lewistown 62-51 to win third place in 1A competition. St. Anne (25-8) dropped its final four games of the season before regrouping for the 1A regionals. The Cardinals jumped ahead early and maintained a comfortable margin for most of the game. "We knew we had some struggles at the end of the season, and we knew what caused them," said St. Anne coach Rick Schoon. "We talked about our goals and what we wanted and these guys went out and did it." St. Anne was led by all-state guard Cliff Flemings' 28 points. Nokomis (30-6) was paced by Wade Kimbro, who scored 15 points and grabbed a team-high 9 rebounds. In the consolation game, Warrensburg (32-2) — ranked second in the state by The Associated Press — was led by all-state forward Zack Boyd with 19 points. Top-ranked Lewistown (31-3) was led by Brian Flaharty's 16 points. Another strong showing for Gink in PODS Championship Ammatnl Pins Stewart Gink's fortunes turned quickly in wind that never went away Saturday, running off 3 straight birdies for a 2-under 68 in the PODS Championship in Palm Harbor, Fla., that likely puts him in the final group for the third time this year. Even better, Tiger Woods has the week off. Cink went from a 4-shot deficit to a 2-shot lead in a Golf roundup span of five holes, and despite 30 mph wind and temperatures that plunged into the 50s, he didn't make a bogey until his final hole in near darkness when he came up short of the 18th green. Even so, he was at 5-under 208 and was 2 shots clear of former U.S. Open champion Geoff Ogilvy, who also had a 69. Cink played in the final group in the Buick Invitational, albeit 8 shots behind Woods. The four-time PGA Tour winner also reached die final match of the Accenture Match Play Championship, where Woods beat him 8 and 7. Cink doesn't have the 54- hole lead quite yet. Brandt Snedeker, who birdied his last hole in the morning to finish the second round with a 1-shot lead, stretched that margin to 4 shots with a birdie on the seventh hole, and he had a 12-foot birdie putt on the eighth. But he 3-putted for bogey, and his momentum was gone. He dropped 3 more shots over the next five holes. Snedeker was 3 under and in the 16th fairway when the third round was suspended by darkness. Toshiba Classic: Two-time Masters champion Bernhard Langer moved into position for his second Champions Tour victory, shooting his second straight 6-under 65 to take a 3- stroke lead in the Toshiba Classic at Newport Beach, Calif. Langer had an eagle, 5 birdies and a bogey on the Newport Beach Country Club course. Morris Hatalsky (64), Jeff Sluman (65), first-round leader Tim Simpson (70) and 2005 winner Mark Johnson (69) were tied for second at 9 under. Malaysian Open: Defending champion Peter Hedblom shot a bogey-free 7-under 65 to take a 2-stroke lead into the final round of the Malaysian Open in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The Swede had a 17-under 199 on the Kota Permai course in the event sanctioned by die European and Asian tours. Argentina's Daniel Vancsik was second after a 64.
