Doesn't keep her photo in his wallet, so he can show it to old ladies he sits next to on plane trips. Never wants to go on a stroll with her under a full moon. Randall Oxford and Tamm Reed, both of Fayetleville d e f e a t e d Louisiana Tech Linked to Patient Deaths Dialysis Sugar Solution Recalled By FDA Pleas Entered By Eight Held On Drag Charges WASHINGTON (AP) -- A 'car after the problem was rought. to Its attention, the ?ood and Drug Administration s recalling thousands of bottles of a sugar solution linked to several patient deaths and injuries. Medical experts say the 7- per-cenl dextrose solution, when improperly administered in peritoneal dialysis, can lead to rapid dehydration, shock, coma, convulsions and death. Peritoneal dialysis involves discharging the sugar solution into a patient's abdominal cavity and then draining it, to remove wastes when his kidneys fail to do the job. The recall, limited largely to William Carey, Mississippi College and Louisiana College and lost to LSU and Springhill, La. Oxford was cited as superior in inpromptu speaking E x c e l l e n t ratings were awarded to Miss Kirk in poetry to Miss Fitzgerald in prose, and t o Oxford in persuasive speaking. icspitals, involves existing stocks of the 7-per-cent solution manufactured by Abbott, Trav- enol, McGaw and Cutter laboratories. 11,000 BATTLE REMAINS The FDA said it believes about 11,000 bottles remain in national, and international markets, plus another 17,600 frozen at Cutter outlets in the United States, Canada and the Dominican Republic. The recall amounts to a virtual ban because "there is no justification for approving continued marketing," the FDA said. Most companies stopped manufacturing the 7-per-cent solution, the agency said, after an informal meeting in Chicago early last year of FDA and in dustry representatives and physicians concerned with kidney and peritoneal dialysis. The FDA said Tuesday it has no knowledge of deaths linkec to the solution and at the lime of the ·meeting last year hac ''felt no need for immediate ac tion." Dr. Henry Tenckhoff, associ ate professor at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle, said there have been "a number of reports of deaths clearly related to Inappropriate administration of ;hese solutions."
