M, »» A tribute to golfs super achievements Louis votied best boxer, , BYDOUGIVES SUn Writer Johnny^Miller's three consecutive victories to open the 1974 tour (he may duplicate that this year) was one of only a few remarkable achievements in the world of golf, amateur and pro, last year. A 13-year-old golfer scored a double-eagle, two men played a full round in 54 minutes, and an 86- year-old shot better than his age every time he teed up in the last 12 months. Among the unusul achievements-Clark Lincoln, 25, of Elwell, Mich., set an all- time mark by playing 653 holes in a 24-hour period at the nine-hole, 3,120- yard Country Creek course in Elwell. Lincoln rode a golf cart between shots. The record for holes played afoot in 24 hours is 364. William Dixon, 31, and Harrison Clement, 32, completed 18 holes in 52 minutes at the 6,304-yard Gulph Hills Golf Club r.ssr Philadelphia. Dixon and Clement walked (or. ran) while their clubs followed in a golf cart. The old record was one hour, 40 minutes. Robert Preston, 13, became the youngest ever to double-eagle a par-5 when his 3-wood second shot found the cup on the 518- TICTJL.A.K.S yard, 18th hole at Brock Park Golf Club in Houston, Tex. Longest double- eagle of the year went to Edward Bello on the 588- yard, 14th hole at the Moonbrook Country Club in his home own, Jamestown, N.Y. Michael Greenfield, Brooklyn, N . Frank Bailey, 86, of Abilene scored better than his age every round he played in 1974, adding 257 "age" rounds to his record total. He has now scored better than hils age 1,710 times. A record 83 men shot their age or better in 1974. The oldest was William Marsh, 92, of Santa Rosa, Calif. The youngest was James Richards, 64, who had a 63 on the 6,180-yard Lake Chabot Course in Oakland. Brice Hamilton, 76, Ft. Wayne, Indiana, beat his age by the most strokes when he shot a 68 (8- under) at the 6,771-yard Fairview Golf Club in Ft. Wayne.
