Three seats are at stake in the election. The third incumbent, James Gray announced earlier that he w i l l not seek another term. Jacobs, 66, a businessman and former electrical contractor, has served on the b o a r d since 1962. Crawford, a Long Beach dentist, has served since 1963. "WE'RE fortunate to have good schools in Long Beach, Lakewood, Signal Hill and Avalon," said Jacobs. "The record of community support for public education in our communities attests to the quality of education here. Our schools have had few of the problems plaguing other urban areas. This is no accident. "It will require the best efforts of a strong and ex-- perienced school team in JERALD JACOBS the years ahead to maintain this record of educa- t i o n a l e x c e l l e n c e at reasonable cost." Jacobs is serving his fifth term as president of the board for the Long Beach Unified School District and his third term as president of the Long Beach Community College District board. He has been vice president of the board three times. A native of Utah and a resident of Long Beach JAMES CRAWFORD since 1923, Jacobs now serves on the boards of St. M a r y M e d i c a l Center, Long Beach Area Council, Boy Scouts of America, and the regional board of directors of Union Bank. He is past president of the Y M C A M e t r o p o l i t a n Board, Kiwanis Club of L o n g Beach and Long Beach Electrical Contractors Association. DR.
