GE TM A TM S Rise on Broad Front By ED MORSE AP Business News Writer NEW YORK (AP)--The stock market made its second best advance of 1960 Tuesday as it recovered some of the ground lost in the big January decline. An estimated 3/£ billion dollars in quoted values of stocks listed on the New York Stock Exchange were recouped, according to the rise in the Associated Press average of 60 stocks. The Dow-Jones industrial average advanced 10.72 to 632.92, making its biggest jump since it rose 11.41 on Nov. 15, 1957, when the market celebrated a cut in the discount rate. Of 1,221 issues traded, 798 advanced and 240 declined. New highs for 1959-'60 to- WHILE THE MARKET had nothing like that to cheer it up Tuesday it did have taled 8 and new lows 21, Volume increased to 3,080,000 shares from 2,820,000 Monday and was a shade above Friday's turnover. Fourteen of the 15 most-active stocks advanced and one was unchanged, Studebaker-Packard (when issued). · Studebaker-Packard regular was the most-active slock, up % at 20y s on 44,400 shares. Second was Westingnoue Electric (new), up 1V5 at 51 ] /i on 43,800 shares. Third was General Motors, up 1 at 49% on 42,200 shares. NEXT CAME Armour, up 1% at 41, and signs of an easing of the tight money, high the Studebaker-Packard (when-issued), un- interest rate situation.
