Shepherd received the Army .Distinguished Service Cross, : Navy Cross and-French CroiX de .Guerre during the first ^World War. In World War II, he was awarded the Legion of :Merit, Distinguished Service Cross and a Gold Star. The general commanded the Tacific Fleet " Marine Force · during the Korean War.
