HUMBOLDT STANDARD Tuesday, April 10, 1962, P. 17 mil STREET CHATTER NEW YORK (UPD-Martin Gil bert of Van Alstync, Noel Co says he still thinks the market is in the process of bottoming out particularly as it approaches the 690 range in the Dow-Jones industrial average. However, Gilbert feels that the long term trend Is still upward and while the optimistic forces are having a rough time, the D-J industrial average will soon hole with buyers exerting their influence on the price structure. According to Standard t Poor's, there arc two trends evident in the soft drink industry, which has experienced steady growth over a period of years. One is the swing away from the cola drinks, which account for about 60 per cent ol the market, to fruit flavors. The other is the emergence of the low- calorie soft drink. The Vaule Line Investment Survey says that most, but not all, sectors of the textile industry are riding a crest of prosperity. Orders are up, production is up, shipments are rising and profits are running well ahead of last year. But now is the time to look ahead to the next dip, the survey points out. How long will the industry as a whole and individual companies within it fare under the more competitive conditions which will apply a year from now? Vote Aides Named For Sen. Kuchel Several additional aides were announced today for U. S. Senator Thomas Kuchel's campaign in Humboldt County. County chairman Herbert Sapper said Robert Barnum will serve as finance chairman, Pat Dorsey of Orick as chairman in the northern sector, while Joe Russ Jr. will direct Ihe re-election efforts for Senator Kuchel in the southern coastal area. Sapper said that the Senator Kuchel "workers are meeting with "a wonderful response throughout umboldt county." Permit Granted For Remodeling Warren Kennedy obtained a $1,000 city building permit today for' remodeling at 2607 P St. on a day work basis. Other permits issued by City Building Inspector Roy Smart included: Carl B. Gentry, 935 Third St., refmish interior walls, $700, day work; C. D. Daly and Sons, 521 Fourth St., rebuild door, $200, W. C. Turner, contractor. Saves Some Wear On The Feathers LONDON (UPI) -- A sparrow lilched a 600-mile free lilt from Copenhagen to London Monday aboard a jet airliner. The stowaway apparently flew into the plane at- tHe Copenhagen Airport. If was discovered an hour out of Denmark when it fluttered Tom under the pilot's seal.
