It is a frank and realistic portrayal of their situation, and we suggest you consider whether the program should be viewed by young people or others in your home who might be disturbed by it." The question: "What is 'normal' in normal blood pressure.'" The old saying about the"happy medi urn" goes at least double for blood pressure. " R o u g h l y speaking, normal approxi- . mares, in the adult, half his I or her age plus Dr _ yy es 100. But you He | ler/ D.C. must rt-mt-m- btr that adjustments, upward or downward, arc made for height, weight, st-x and Central build of the body, so no precise rule can bt given for all persons. Blood pressure is the central factor in one of the most typical paradoxo of health. To worry, or even wonder, about your blood pressure prob.ibly creates a tension that in itst-If can kick the figure up a few points. Then, when the doctor tells you it's slightly higher than normal, he c,in add to your apprehensiveness and produce another reaction on the blood pressure. People should get into the habii of having their blood pressure checked. The habit will not produce unusual stress and therefore normal blixx) pressure has its best chance of being reflected in, i.iy. semi-annual investigation. Frankly, and I hope this is re.issuring to some, accurate measurement of blood pressure can really only be determined by having it checked at least three consecutive* Jjtrt under nearly the same conditions and time as possible. Of heallh concern are both high and low blood pressure. Lower than normal readings may be associated with anemic conditions, a weak heart action, poor circulation, etc. High blood pressure is associated mostly w i t h conditions more dangerous to life. Prominent among them is arteriosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), a condition that can eventually be fatal if allowed to progress. It's as wvll often associated with certain diseases of the kidneys, hypertension, over-indulgence, etc. Abnormal blood pressure is essentially a symptom and not a disease. And like so many other of" nature's bodily warning signals it indicates a condition that should be scrutinized and treated. Keep in mind that any serious deviation from normal blood pressure is due to some definite cause. In some cases this cause may be dietetic, but, much more often it will be due to some condition arising from an abnormality of nerve function or combination of both. In short, every adult from the age of 30 upwards would ' rx- wise 10 make it a point to have his or her blood pressure checked regularly. Let's find out about high blood pressure before a serious problem presents itself and its correction is evermore difficult. And let. me get in a plug for relaxation right here. We pet credited frequently as being experts in correcting nervous tension, but an individual's own personal relaxation can most certainly add to both his general health of mind aid body. Do you have a question.' Write Dr. W« P, Hclzer, IXC, c/o Hclzer Chiroprjcric Offices,' 9-161 Flower, cll* flower, (telephone 86(5-3721). ARS 1975
