The 2002-03 marching band has 130 members, including 90 playing members and 40 auxiliary members including drum majors, color guard, I-ettes and majorettes. The band is under the direction of Nevin Saylor. Assistant band directors are Bob Rizzo and Dave Drummond, the color- guard instructor is Paula Sayior, Kelley Mack teaches the I-ettes and majorettes and the drum line is under the tutelage of Nathan Johnston and Raun Shultz. The visual coordinator is Kurt Mergen; Beth Grafton is the uniform coordinator. Field conductors are head drum major Anna Avolio and associate drum major Jennifer Smyers. The Band Fest program, tided Legends, includes: • "The Legend of the Scorpion King" from the movie, "The Mummy Returns." with color-guard soloist Beth Dolan and horn soloist Brianne Fuelmer; • Two selections featuring legends of rock and roll: "I Saw Her Standing There" by the Beatles and "Back in Black," originally recorded by ACDC; • In remembrance of the legendary Norman Bates, the prelude from "Psycho;" and • The sounds of Danny Elfman's composition, die theme from the movie "Sleppy Hollow," featuring trumpet soloist Kevin Strezo. The Indiana Senior High School marching band, orchestra, symphonic band, and jazz ensemble present concerts throughout the school year as well as perform at various civic functions. The vocal and instrumental programs are regularly represented at the PMEA district, region, and all-state festivals. Indiana will also have student representation at the MENC All-East Festival in Providence, R.I. this spring. The instrumental program also hosts a jazz artist-in-residency program. Artists featured with the bands included Ralph Guzzi, Eric Susoeff, Eric De- Fade, Chris Vadala and Jon Faddis. This year the band will welcome Slide Hampton. The band has appeared at Disney World, the Dixie Classic, the Citrus Bowl Parade and the Orange Bowl Parade. This will be the band's third appearance at the Fiesta Bowl. The band will be wearing its new uniforms at Band Fest. WILLIAM G.
