Pharos-Tribune, Logansport, Indiana, Monday, March 21, 1988 Page 9 Sports Azinger Wins Bayhill Classic shop toganiand First ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - Paul Azinger changed the question marks to exclamation points. "Every article that has been written about Paul Azinger this year has ended in a question mark," the 1987 Player of the Year said Sunday after firing a 5-under-par 66 for a five-stroke victory over Tom Kite in the Bay Hill Classic. Golf "There's been a lot of expectations heaped on me. I put some on myself. 1 haven't enjoyed 1988 all that much. It's been live and die on every shot. So this was pretty sweet." The expectations came from his 1987 season, when he won three tournaments, more than $800,000 and earned professional golf's Player of the Year honors. The questions came from a recent history of next-year failures by players of the year. Not since Tom Watson in 1980 has a player of the year been able to win a tournament the following season. But Azinger, who led throughout the tournament and entered Sunday's round with a one-shot edge over Kite, answered all the questions by winning a Shootout with Kite over Arnold Palmer's Bay Hill Sale Calendar Mar. 20—Tom & Carrie Maxson Doug Davies Mar. 23—Leora Clem Estate Carl Johnson Mar. 26—Ray Harpster Estate Auction Smith Auctions Mar. 26—Ed Boone Owner Dewaine Davies Apr. 1—Franklin D. & Doris E. (AP) — Dale Earnhardt had begun wondering when he was going to win again. "That's a good question. I asked myself the same question," said the two-time defending Winston Cup points champion, who hadn't won in 10 races after dominating with 11 victories in 1987. He snapped the losing streak on Sunday in capturing the Motorcraft 500 stock car race at Atlanta International Raceway. "It's just been luck," he said of his winless streak. "A flat tire here, something just happens. But we got it together today and had a car that could lap the field." If your telephone number begins with 722,732,735,737,739 or 753, here's what you should know. There are lots of long-distance phone companies. Each has its own products and prices. But until now, only one of them offered you the convenience of "One-plus" dialing. If you wanted to use any of the others, you had to dial as many as 14 extra numbers. No more. Thanks to a service called "Equal Access," you choose the company you prefer for "One- plus" dialing. In the next few days, we will send you information explaining Equal Access, plus a ballot to let you choose among the long-distance companies serving your area. (If you don't make a choice, we're required to select a company for you.) Read the material carefully Then mark the ballot with the company of your choice and return it to us. That's all. We'll do the rest. When Equal Access starts, we'll automatically connect you to your choice. Watch your mail for details. Choose the long- distance company you want—and return the ballot to us.
