Saturday tours Area mines open for educators Tours bf, several copper mines begin;tomorrow for elementary and secondary school teachers and administrators. The free tours are planned to:give educators a firsthand look at mines in operation. Tour dates are set for every Saturday through March 3 starting this week. The trips are designed to .precede Tucson Copper Days (March 1217). x ' . ' Buses will leave Tucson School District 1 Education Center at 1010 E. 10th St. each Saturday at 8:30 a.m., return- ing at 4:30 p.m. Each bus will have a guide and narrator. Mines to be visited include the Esperanza and Sierrita Mines of .the Duval Corp., Twin Buttes Mine of Anaconda Co., Pima Mine of the Pima Mining Co. and the Mission Mine of American Smelting and Refining Co. ; Educators and spouses interested in the tour may .call the District 1 communications office, 884-8510, by the, Monday of the week they wish to take the tour. Con Shopping Center, in front of Union Bank downtown, 'Amphi 'Quake peril 9 may close Indian unit WINSLOW (AP) : Health officials for the Navajo tribe expect the Winslbw Indian Hospital to be condemned 1 this spring, after 40 years of opef- "ations, because of a possible danger from earthquakes. Â· Dr. George Bock, director of the Navajo Area. Indian. Health Service, said 1 new building codes that .become effective iirthe spring apply ;tp hospitals in quake areas. But Bock .said, "As far as we can determine there have never been any earth tremors reported in the Winslow area. "However, there have been tremors reported in Flagstaff and these treniors, according to experts, could range as far as Winslow." He said public health specialists from Washington, D.C., decided after a visit to the hospital that it would not be economically feasible to bring the facility up to required standards. , Bock said a replacement hospital is being sought on an immediate basis, but it appears unlikely that the estimated 1 $4 million necessary will be provided. Plaza Shopping Center and at Broadway and Kolb Road will open at 10 a.m. . The annual burro derby in El Con parking lot will match local politicians and journalists in competition for.-a gold- plated pair of Levi's. .Festivities begin at 12:30 p.m., Big Hat Jamboree will replace the traditional Big Hat Day. It will be a dance from 8 p.m. to .1 a.m. featuring recording star Don Gibson. The festivities lead up to the 48th annual La Fiesta de los Vaqueros scheduled for Feb. 22-25 at the Tucson Rodeo Grounds where professional cowboys will compete for $45,000 in prize money. Rodeo tickets are $1 for reserved bleacher seats for children 12 and under; $2.25 for adult reserved bleachers; grandstand seats from. $2.75 to $3.50, and, box seats for $5.50, sold in groups of four or six. Also on sale will be rodeo parade grandstand seats for $1.50 and tickets for the Big Hat Jamboree at $2.50 each. Daily hours for the ticket sales at El Con are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2-6 p.m. downtown, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 25 p.m.; Amphi Plaza, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1:30-5 p.m., Broadway Kolb, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2-5 p.m. All offices will be closed Sunday except El Con.
