\ INDEPENDENT-- P«g»A-7 IMS Volunteer Advisers Re-Elect Attorney George A. Hart Sr. ·was re-elected chairman of the Volunteers of America Long Beach Advisory Committee at the group's annual , meeting Tuesday in the Sunset Club. Also re-elected were A. E. Fielding, ' vice chairman, and Mrs. R. J. Booth,' secretary. In its annual report, the organization reported income of $73,276 in 1957, compared to $62,898 for 1956. The Volunteers ended the year in the red, with expenditures totaling $75,806, said Lt. Maj. James H Price, executive director. * « * « THE BIGGEST single chunks of income during the year came from the . Volunteers' stores which took in $48,795, and the Community -Chest, which allocated $11,566 to the organization. -At thee same time. Price reported the Sunset Club--a center for men and women over 60 --had attendance of 34,856 in 1957, compared to 29,435 in 1956. The number of persons served by the emergency family welfare department rose from 1,114 to 1,503. . 'Other'Volunteer activities include its Christmas program, toy loan center, youth work and assistance to alcoholics and parolees. New Edison Stock Issue Marketed As joint managers of an investment banking group,'Dean Witter Co., and the First Boston Corp'., offered Tuesday an issue of 1,000,000 shares of Southern California Edison Co. cumulative preferred stock, 4.78 per cent series, $25 par value, at $25.55 per share to yield approximately 4.68 per cent. The net proceeds of the sale of the new preferred stock will become treasury funds to be used in the company's continuing construction program. The number of customers served by \the company increased from 1,083,684 on Dec. 31, 1952, to 1,456,526 'on Dec. 31, 1957. ; The new preferre'd stock will be redeemable at the option of the. company at prices ranging from 527,30 per share if redeemed on or'before Feb. 28, 1963, to $25.80 per share if de- deemed after Feb. 28, 1973.
