(AP) James Eaton. 23. ot Dardanelle was convicted in Yell County Circuit'Court Monday night of selling a controlled substance. Eaton was charged with selling marijuana last Sept. 7. The jury of four men' and eight women recommended a lenience of five years in the state pentientiary years suspended. with four TV Troubles Of Real People 'An American Family' Seen As Ominous Sign . 71 HOITO * fAmi«V]LU * 44Z4M NOW SHOWING nl rSetuMi Pit****! HAROLD and MAUDE Colofby'" 1 " 1 "''"* CO-HIT By JAY SHARBUTT NEW YORK (AP) -- Last week, an ad in the television section of a newspaper here said: "A brush-fire breaks out and threatens to destroy the Loud home in tonight's episode of 'An American Family.'" Later, the · ad said: "Next week, problems between the couple begin to reveal themselves, and their son Grant is n an auto accident. The following week Pat decides to file for divorce. "Follow the drama of TV's first real family.' ' This has been going on here ad nauseam, ad infinitum, ever since Mr. and Mrs. William C Loud let a television documentary crew film the doings of their family for seven months. When edited to 12 hours for public television, this mam moth home movie made the trials of the Louds a shade bet ter known than those of Job Everybody wrote about them and dissected them. And just when it things were settling down, the Louds were scheduled to ap pear Tueday night on televisioi -- ABCs "Dick Cavett Show' -- to say more about the docu mentary about themselves, OMINOUS SIGN For my dough, all this gab about "An American Family is an ominous sign. It may mean the start of a wave o television documentaries abou ither troubled American fami- Jr., who Is trying to break into DENNIS THE MENACE By Ketchom For example, CBS Tele- rision's "6 Minutes" show had i piece about an Oklahoma amily a few weeks ago. That accounted for two states, the Louds being California residents. It still leaves us with 48 states and as many families to go. In anticipation of the big -ush, I've gotten television rights for the 48th family, that of Everett Scrimshaw of Bum- fudgeon. Fla. Everett is a typical head f a typical television documentary family. He's a widget-maker, earns $40,00. a year and has six wives and 14 children, one by a previous marriage. He owns four television sets, an old Army whistle with the pea still in: it, two pounds of snuff and three cars. His oldest son, Julius, 43, turned weird, at age 13 and refuses to come out of his room. His youngest daughter, Aurelia, 43, is marrying a Druid. The family dog has the mange and does tricks. mugging. We'll start filming the Scrimshaw family just as soon as Everett Jr. gives my documentary crew its cameras back and apologizes for throttling the producer. We hope Scrimshaws to and capture the all of their flaws on television, just like the pioneers of this sort of thing did with the Loud family. We may not have the drama of television's first real family, but we'll sure have the last. We hope. THE LAST fire has threatened the split-level Scrimshaw home since the start of the barbecue season', and the Bumfudgeon Fire Department is of no help. It just shows up with a garden hose and hot dogs. Scrimshaw's wives are all in New York, visiting with the youngest Scrimshaw. Everett PERFECT CIRCLES Tues,, Wed., Thurs. Police said the chase for the car, which was moving about 20 miles per hour, was hectic because it was traveling in tight circle--in reverse. And, as the first fireman to get alongside found out, it was locked. Another fireman smashed the window on the driver's side with an ax so the first fireman could open the door and flick off the ignition. Duke said he had been having trouble with the car's motor. So, he said, when he left it this time, he put it in "park," left the motor running and locked the door as a precaution against thieves. Police said the car made 70 to 80 perfect, curb-to-curb circles without even scraping a tire before they could stop it Tower Security PISA, Italy (AP) - Workers' are burying huge cement blocks around the Tower of Pisa as part of an emergency; plan to save the tower if its lean suddenly worsens.
