Th« TIMES It The Best Buy For Your Advertising Dollar men? While most men admire women, or pretend to for one reason or another, that admira'tion isn't altogether whole-hearted. There are some things about the feminine mystique that the male mind dislikes, resents, envies or s baffled by. A number of men asked recently to state what they felt was wrong with the female sex expressed a wide variety of misgivings. Here are a few of the more interesting replies: "Women? Bah. humbugs!" UNPREDICTABLE "They are so unpredictable. If you try to surprise and please them by bringing them home box of candy, they tell you they've just gone on a diet. If you bring them roses because you know they've always liked roses, they want to know why you didn't bring chrysanthemums because chrysanthemums go better with the new draperies." "When they are too dumb to know what's really going they pretend they do by trying to look mysterious." "The only girl who annoycr me wns the one who always saie no to everything I ever askec her until the day I asked her to marry me. Then she really gave the wrong answer. She said yes." "What's wrong with women? That's a good question. Pull up a chair, son this is going to take all afternoon." "The worst thing about their is that, like politicians, they are horn fence straddlcrs. No matter what happens and how it turns out. they always manage to be in a position to claim they were right. "I think their worst trait is he mean revenge they take on i man. If he keeps them waiting six months before he proposes to them, they get even by mak ng him wait on them hand and 'oot Tor the next 40 or 50 years." ONLY FAULT "Personally, the only real fault I find with my wife is that her snoring keeps me awake all night, and the next morning she claims she didn't sleep a wink because of the street noises outside. When I tell her she was snoring, she palls me a liar." "They client at cards--even if you're only paying penny poker." "Women are born arrogant. The only thing that teaches them humility is wrinkles, and if they can afford to get their faces lifted they never get humble." TOO TALKY "All of them are too talky. They insist on thinking out loud when they have nothing on 'their minds. The less they have to say. the more determined they are to say it." But the most common criticism of women voiced by most men was the adage that has summed up male bewilderment on ihis subject for perhaps centuries: "You can't get along with Vm, and you can't gel along without 'nil." VEVEY. Switzerland (AP)' Charlie Chaplin spent his 80th birthday today in the privacy of his mansion, aloof from millions of fans and saddened by the death of a royal friend. Only his wife Oona, his five youngest children and a few members of his staff were with the famed comedian at the Manoir de Ban, a 37-aerc estate overlooking Lake Geneva. There he was told of the death of ex-Queen Victoria Eugenie of Spain Tuesday night at her home in nearby Ouchy. She was 81, and they had met repeatedly since Chaplin came to Switzerland in 1952 to live. Chaplin's secretary said he was "just not interested" in his birthday, but he finally gave in to persistent requests that he let two classes of the Corsier village school serenade him. His youngest son, Christopher, 6, is a nunil at the school. Reg. $12 to $14 a Pair This is the Shoe Sale You have waited for all year.
