'Oldest Bank In Arkansas' Begins Second Century Of Service To City And Area The "Oldest Bank in Ar- 1 kansas", Fayetteville's McIIroy Bank, is into its second century of service to the people of Fayetteville a n d surrounding areas. Facilities of the bank, completed in 1972, are a far cry from the modest building vacated in 1972 after 100 years. The bank evolved from a partnership between William McII- roy and Denton Stark on Jan. 2, 1871. That agreement did not spec ify that McIIroy was buying part of the bank, but rather that he was to receive a return of 20 per cent per annum on his $5,000 from the profits of the bank until Jan. I, 1872 or longer. The agreement was extended beyond the original expiration date, but it was not until Jan uary of 1876 that the bank took the name it has worn for mon than a century. On Jan. 2,1876, William Mcfl roy put up a new sign readuij "William McIIroy Bank." Management of the bank has emained. in the McIIroy fam- [y since its founding. Today's loard chairman and president, Hayden McIIroy, Is a direct res- cendant. The bank remained in the iron ront building constructed by tark from its opening untf !972 when the new, modern ank was constructed just north of the original building and stil :onnected to the original. The new building contains 3,100 yards of concrete; 24 tons of reinforced steel; 1,26 yards of carpeting; 5,000 squari feet of bronze glass includin; vertical exterior panels whicl measure 22 feet high, one-hal inch thick and weigh 1,50 pounds each. The structure contains 20,78(1 square feet of space and wa formally opened on July II 1972, There exists in the new builc ing the same spirit of hospita ity and service that is backe by 100 years of McIIroy ban experience. · Engine Tune-Up · Brake Reline · Lube and Oil Change · Front-End Alignment GOODYEAR Service Store 104 N.
