BROADWAY Suggestions for Mother's Day Long Distance telephone calls Many of our customers don't realize that the second busiest day of the year for the operators and equipment handling Long Distance calls is Mother's Day. We staff up to the maximum, and our circuits work to capacity; but in spite of everything, many calls encounter delays. We don't like this any better than you do, but since we want your calls to go through, we have a few suggestions to make that may help: 1. You can dial station-to-station calls direct to many cities. This is faster than placing them with an operator and they may have a better chance of going through quickly. If you dial your own calls, be sure to have the complete number, including the Area Code (unless the call is within the state/). If you get a busy signal, or if your call fails to go through, dial it again 5 or 10 minutes later. 2. If you aren't sure or you don't know the out-of-town phone number, you can get it from "Universal Information," by dialing "1", then the Area Code of the town you're calling (as shown in the instructional pages of your Directory), then 555-1212. There is no charge for such calls to information. It's a good idea to obtain numbers before Mother's Day. O. Lowest Long Distance rates apply all day on Sundays, so you needn't wait 'til 8 p.m. to place your call. If you want to avoid probable delays, you may want to call on Saturday when rates during the day are lower than on week days. After 8 p.m. on Saturday the same lowest rates apply as those on Sunday.
