Gardens Take The .*flSK*3fea8^^ "* - - - - - - - '? ^ih^^fa^S^^^^^^i^^^^^sss^.^.- ' i; i.; I · ^!fc ' NEW YORK--UPI--With the first real days of spring, thoughts turn to outdoor living---to the garden in particular. For cutting and trimming, underfoot or overhead, Jimsin Co., Franklin, La., offers the Bow-Knifer, a double-edged cutting tool w h i c h , with its blade bowed, serves as a grass and weed cutter; with the, blade straight out as a trimmer for overhead brush and small tree limbs. The tool is designed around a doubled-edged flexing blade of steel, attached to a lightweight hickory handle. 0 0 0 For sealing pruning cuts and tree injuries, Stanley Tools, New Britain, Conn., o f f e r s tree-wound compound in convenient spray cans. Heritage House Products, Inc., Pittsburgh, has introduced a new Wonder Mulch which it is said will not deplete nitrogen in the soil. Consisting chiefly of corn cobs ground to uniform size and a rich brown color, the mulch requires considerable nitrogen t o decompose. However a special ingredient is included which prevents it from drawing necessary nitrogen from the soil. A special agent has been added also to make the mulch readily wettable so that it will not float away during rain or watering, nor blow away. For the serious gardener, Jacobsen Manufacturing Co., Racine, Wis., has introduced an all-purpose loader designed to be used with its Chief garden tractor. The loader includes twin-cylinder lift with full hydraulic control that can raise a 300-pound payload to .a height of four feet, all welded construction and bucket lock. For women who like to garden -- and for women who have to--Melnor Industries, Moonachie, N. J., has come up with a piece of labor saving garden equipment--a cart that doubles as a garden hose carrier and light weight hand truck. The hose reel/ cart has been designed, the manufacturer says, to cut from 80 to 95 per cent of the lifting, hauling and tugging involved in gardening and lawn watering. Good news for those areas where the vicious fire ant abounds. Allied Chemical Corp. has introduced a new insecticide Mirex, said to be highly effective, more economical and easier to apply safely than insecticides previously employed to control this ant, described by the U. S. Department of Agriculture as "small, dark and ugly with a nasty disposition--will bite and sting anything that gets in its way." The insecticide comes in dilute bait form which the ants take inside their mounds where it can destroy an entire colony in 2 to 4 weeks. 5jyi£ I mm %mt Inside the detail m V..--S /i~.v ;-^, jwy/ ]2e£Mtiful i SSrS R*l ?£Sfe9fei: p?ms^ W;l EJ^ '^3»i H -^ w ^For You -- the Ultimate in Custom Homes ^ ,*rr*."r g #aaw ·*3*r ·SKf*- i 8 COUNTRY CLUB ,ir JACK G.
