Speedway Blvd. Tests Show Realty Fire Was Arson A city Fire Prevention Bureau Investigation of Sunday night's fire at a South Side realty office has determined that the blaze definitely was arson. Fire inspector Junior D. Blair, said crime laboratory tests of evidence taken from Vie Bel Air Real Estate Co., 1130 S. Highland Aye., showed the fire was set with a flammable liquid. Further tests probably will show the liquid was either gasoline or kerosene, Blair said. Investigators reported finding evidence that two separate fires had been set--one inside the front room of the business and the other in a locked rear office. Damage to the building and its contents was an estimated $5,000. "We've talked to quite a number of people concerning the fire but so far, we have no solid leads," Blair said. Samuel Joyner, the company's owner, told Blair the business had been entered about a month ago by someone who broke an office window. Blair said the fire possibly is related to the earlier break-in. Anderson, Long A VA Doctor, Dies Dr. Carl A. Anderson, 87, a Veterans Hospital physician more than 20 years, died today at the Valley House Convalescent Center after a long illness. He had left here for.Pasa- dena, Calif., when he retired in 1945 but returned in December, 1964. A native of Sweden, Dr. Anderson moved to Minnesota as a child and graduated from the University of Minnesota Medical School in 1905. .He came to Tucson in 1918 as a member of the U. S. Indian Service and served at Sells with the Papago Indians. After World War I he attended Johns Hopkins University to study the effects of poison gas on lungs. He then was assigned to the original Veterans Hospital here when it consisted of tents and barracks on Pastime Road near North Oracle Road. Dr. Anderson is survived by a son, Curtiss, and a grandson, both of Tucson. Funeral arrangements a r e pending at Arizona Mortuary. Burial will be in Pasadena. Bonds Set For Teens In Death Bonds of $10,000 each have been set in Superior Court for two teen-age boys being held in county jail on open murder charges in connection with, the auto death of another teen-age youth. Defendants in the case are Edward Montano, 18, of 514 E. 29th St., and John G. Sanchez, 17, of 2413 S. 2nd Ave. They are accused of slaying Frank Mendibles, 19, of 130 W. McCormick St., on Feb. 4 by striking him with a car and driving over his body three times. Judge William Frey took the unusual action of setting bail in the homicide case after the state presented three witnesses in an attempt to show no bond should be allowed. Bail only can be denied, according to" state law, in cases ·where there is clear and convincing evidence of a capital offense. Montano and Sanchez are being represented by attorneys E d w a r d Valeski and Lamar Couser. Both are court appointed. for this event-BOTH STORES OPEN WEDNESDAY 9A.M.
