PAGE 4 T U C S O N D A I L Y C I T I Z E N FRIDAY, MAY 12, 1967 Pressure On Supervisors To Deny Licavoli Ranch Rezoning Request Pressure is building on the County Board of'. Supervisors to deny a rezoning which has been recommended on mobster Pete Licavoli's Grace Ranch on Wrightstown Koad. : . The board will hold a public hearing/on the proposal at 10 . a.m. Tuesday. If interest already shown is ah indication, a standing room only crowd can be expected. Getting most of the pressure is Supervisor Dennis Weaver His district includes the far East Side, where the ranch is located and opponents to its rezoning live. Now Troop Has Transportation A 1960 ambulance has been donated to Boy Scout Troop 779 by ; Reilly Funeral Home to serve as. transportation to camp sites. Scoutmaster Frank Sutherland said the funeral home had learned the troop was having difficulty in raising funds for a bus. Opposition is being organized. More than a dozen persons who own homes on Wrighstown, Tanque Verde and Woodland roads met in a private home last week to talk strategy aimed at heading off the change. Their arguments raise two points: -- County master plans now call for low density, suburban type uses of the Wrighstown road ranch. Most significant of these is the 100-square-mile Rincon Area Plan adopted in 1959 after months of study and con- roversy. --There is a flood danger from Tanque Verde Wash and denser development would complicate this problem. George Grove, the county's, flood plain consultant las acknowledged that part o ;he property would be subjec to flooding. But he felt that the danger applied to only a smal" part. Weaver is non-committal. HI wants to hear the case first But he says he will not b swayed by pressure tactics o by the fact that the land be longs to Licavoli, reported t have national crime syndicat connections. "Personalities shouldn't enter nto it, Weaver said. "The only mporlant thing is whether the ezoning is proper or not." The opposition may be late in oming. Little was shown when the case was before the Plan- jing and Zoning Commission ast month, so little that some f the commissioners commented on it. Vice Chairman John Krmpot- ch wondered then if opponents Charitable Child Upsets Hospital BARNSLEY, England (UPI) --When one little girl in a hospital ward got a bag o candy and saw that five playmates had none, she did thi charitable thing and handed ou the sweets. She shouldn't have. The othe girls were waiting to underg tonsillectomies. The candy upse the operating schedule sine patients must not have anythin on their stomachs. The hospital said operation were delayed for 48 hours. were lying low with the intent f "shooting off their big guns Before the Board of Super- isors." In the past, rezoning oppo- enls who pull that tactic have rawn the resentment of the ommission and the anger of he supervisors. Commissioners voted 4-3 to recommend the rezoning from suburban density -- at least our-acre homesites -- to two lomes per acre. Multiple-fam- .ly zoning also is proposed, for a few acres around the main ranch house. Tucson Title Trust Co., the petitioner of record under a trusteeship agreement, has plans for a subdivision. Spokesmen for the company have said construction would start immediately if the rezoning is okayed. It is the fourth time since 1958 that attempts have been made to rezone the ranch for denser resident*-! development. Previous tries in 1958, 1962 and 1963 did not get past the commission. ^--· M vERsons i » ·»· «\^^-rt i e"T/"\ncc DOWNTOWN-WHITE HOUSE 42 W. Congress. 9:30-5:30. Fri.
