"Athanasios" Pavlakis Edward J. Prachniak JOHNSTON. Keith E. Johnston, 93, husband of the late Georglanna (Dunnan) Johnston, died Monday (Oct. 4, 1993) at the Masonic Home Hospital in Walllngford.

Mr. Johnston was born in Quebec, Canada at Lake Megantic on March 9, 1900, and had been a resident of Manchester for over 50 years. He was a retired supervisor at the Machinery Small Tool Dlv. of Pratt 8. Whitney Aircraft In West Hartford.

Mr. Johnston was a member of Center Congregational Church, Manchester, a member for over 70 years of The Masonic Lodge in Sherbrook, Quebec, Canada and a Past Patron of Temple Chapter No. 53 Order of the Eastern Star. Mr. Johnston is survived by a daughter-in-law, Mrs.

Cecelia Johnston of Bolton; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Murray E. Johnston In February of this year. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1993, 10:30 a.m., at Center Congregational Church, 11 Center Manchester.

Burial will be In Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to the Center Congregational Church Memorial Fund. The Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main Manchester has charge of arrangements. KARRAN.

Lucille Karran, 82, of Hartford, went to be with her Savior on October 2, 1993 in Mount Sinai Hospital. She was born In St. Andrew, Jamaica, W.I. In 1981, she migrated to the United States where she lived with her daughter, Hyacinth. Lucille was best known to friends and family as She is survived by four children; her daughter, Amy Karran of Windsor; her dedicated and devoted daughter.

Hyacinth Taylor of Hartford; her son, Herald Baga- lek, 70, formerly or i Stanley Drive, Enfield, died Thursday (Sept. 30, 1993) In the Veterans Ad ministration Hospital and Medical Center, Loma Linda, Calif. He was born in Indian Orchard, and resided In Enfield most of his life, moving to California a year and a half ago. He was the son of the late Stanlslaw and Barbara (Panek) Marszalek. Mr.

Marszalek was formerly employed by Hamilton Standard, Plant Security Windsor Locks. He was later employed by Waldbaum's Food Mart for 20 years and retired as produce manager in 1990. Mr Marszales was a U.S. Army veter an of WW II, and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Disabled American Vet'' erans Association.

He Is survived by a son, Peter Marszalek of Wll- domar, a daughter, Karen Marszalek of Van Nuys, two sisters and brothers-in-law, Ann and Stanley Plorek, and Joan and Peter S. Targonskl, all of Enfield; a brother, Anthony W. Marszalek of East Longmeadow, a grandson, Justin Marszalek of Wildomar, several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Stephen T. and Mitchell J.

Marszalek. Funeral service will bo held Thursday, 8:15 a.m., from Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, 43 Shaker Road, Enfield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burl' al, 9 a.m., at St. Adalbert's Church, Enfield. 3, 1993) at Mount Slnal Hospital. She was born In Roper, N.C, and lived In the Hart-fordBloomfleld area for the last 28 years. She was a member of Union Baptist Church, where she served as an accompanist and soloist. She graduated from Washington County Union School In I960, and Howard University In 1964. She received her Master's from NYU in 1965.

Up until the time of death, she was employed as a music teacher for the Board of Education. She had spent the malorlty of her career at John Clark Elementary School since its Inception. She was a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Jack and Jill of America, Hartford, NAACP, Makalla pie No. 172, P.H.A. Rangers Mother's Club, Treasurer of the Music Teacher's Department, Accompanist for the Hartford Music Extravaganza All-School Elementary Choir, and an accomplished pianist and vocalist in the Hertford area.

She is survived by her husband, James E. Murphy; three sons, Kyle and twins, Sekou and Kareem, all of Bloomfield; a host of uncles; aunts; other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Thursday, 7 p.m., with calling hour, 6-7 p.m., with AKA services 6:30 p.m., at Union Baptist Church 1921 Main Hartford. Burial will be In the Wllklns Cemetery, Roper, N.C. 2, 1993 He was born Sept. 17, 1907, In Hartford, and moved to tho Osprey, area 21 years ago from Des Plalnes, ill. He was a retired assistant of CNA Insurance Chicago, III. A U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II, he was member of the Friendly Sons and Daughters of St.

Patrick, and a member and usher at Cathedral of the Epiphany, all of Venice, Fla. Survivors include his wife, Mae. Visitation will be today, 2-4 p.m., at Ewing Funeral Home, Venice, Fla. PETTENGILL. Ruth J. (Porter) Pettengill, 66, of Stafford Road, Mansfield Center, wife of Roy M. Pettengill, died Monday (Oct. 4, 1993) at Windham Community Hospital, Wllllmantlc.

Born in Hebron, Nov. 5, 1926, daughter of the late Orlando and Mabel (LaMere) Porter, she was a resident of Manstieid center for 25 years, having formerly lived In Marlborough and Middle Haddam. She was a graduate of Eest Hampton High School. Besides her husband, she Is survived by a son, Roy M. Pettengill Jr.

of Mansfield Center; a daughter, Holly B. Pettengill of Bolton; two sisters, Lillian Herbert of Clinton, and Helen Sousa of Wa-terford; many nieces and neph ews. The funeral service will be Thursday, 11 a.m., at Spencer Funeral Home, 112 Main East Hampton, with the Rev. James H. Amellng, minister of Marlborough Congregastlonal Church, officiating.

29, 1993) at a local convalescent home. He was born In Manchester, Dec. 27, 1906, and was a lifelong resident. He retired in 1972 from Pratt 8. Whitney Aircraft, East Hartford, and was employed there for over 25 years.

Besides his wife, he Is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Wendy and Lee Gondarowskl of Ellington; and three grandchildren, Kathleen, Lee Peter, and Sean. 4) at New Britain General Hospital. Born and raised in New York City, he moved to West Hartford in 1958, and was employed at the New Britain Bank and Trust Company until his retirement as a vice-president In May of 1974, and lived in Berlin from 1976 until he moved to New Britain In 1984. He was a member of Berlin Congregational Church, where he served on many boards and as one of its trustees, the Salvation Army where he was chairman of the Advisory Board and made a lifetime member, the New Britain Chamber of Commerce, and the National Association of Credit Managers. He Is survived by his wife, Virginia M. (Scha-.

plar) Friedle; a son and daughter-in-law, Atty. Gary A. and Patricia Friedle of Avon; a daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Elaine and Harald Steinmann in West Germany; a step-son, Peter Molchan of West Hartford; six grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Rosa E. Gallup, 85, of 131 Prospect Danielson, wife of the late Floyd Gallup, died Sunday (Oct. 3) at Villa Maria Convalescent Home, Plainfleld. She was born July 26, 1908, In Hasty, daughter of Karl and Mary (Fultz) Nielsen. She is survived by three sons, Robert of East Hartford, Richard of North Windham, and Frank of Danielson; three daughters, Mary Smith of Mount Juliet, Dorothy Krltemeyer, and Jean Middleton, both of Moosup; a sister, Mary Armington of Clinton; ten grandchildren; five greatgrandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are Wednesday, 11 a.m., in Tiliinghast Funeral Home, 433 Main Danielson. Burial: South Cemetery, Brooklyn, Conn. There are no visiting hours. GARRETT. Elmer Ellsworth Garrett, 90, of Hebron, husband of Florence Garrett, died unexpectedly Monday (Oct.

4) at the Windham Hospital. He was born April 5, 1903, and was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania's Moore School of Engineering. He had held a number of positions during his career Including Director of Advanced Research Technology at Univac In Blue Bell, Manager and Chief Engineer of Univac In Norwalk, and Director of Naval Engineering at the Ford Instrument Co. In Long Island City, N.Y. Mr.

Garrett spent several years In Japan as a business liaison for Univac. He was the publisher at the Flume Press In Bridgewater, and established a nana papermaking and printing museum In Bridgewater. He held a number of patents, his last being granted in 1990. In addition to his wife, he Is survived by a daughter, Susan Taylor of Scituate, Mass; a son, James Garrett of Marlborough; grandchildren, Stephen Morgan of Milford, Anne McAuliffe of Natlck, Jon Garrett and Rebecca Garrett of Marlborough; and great-grandchildren, Andrew and Kyle Morgan of Mliford, Mass. Funeral service will be 1 p.m., on Thursday, at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St.

Mlka S. Gibson, Infant daughter of John Gibson and Tra-cey Casey of 960gllby Drive, Hartford, departed this life Thursday (Sept. 30) at Mount Slnal Hospital. She was born In Hartford, May 6, 1993. Herberger, died Sunday (Oct. 3, 1993) at home. Born In Llecester, En- filand, Feb. 22, 1896, she had lived Glastonbury for most of her life. Prior to retiring In 1972, she was a Dental Assistant for Dr.

E. Naylor of Hartford for over 20 years, and was a member of AARP, Glastonbury, and Order of Eastern Star Chapter, Bristol. Mrs. Herberger Is survived by a son, John B. Spencer of Glastonbury; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

HUTT. Marjorie A. Hutt. 82, of 620 Main St, South Glastonbury, died Sunday, Oct. 3, 1993, at Manchester Memorial Hospital, Born July 13, 1911 in Glastonbury, daughter of the late Charles F.C.

and Jennie (Bantle) Hutt, she was a lifelong resident. Marorle graduated from Glastonbury High School in 1928, and was a Golden Member of the First Church of Christ, Congregational, Glastonbury. She Is survived by a sister, Barbara H. Hutt of South Glastonbury; a sis-ter-ln-law, Hazel N. Hunt of Per-kinsville, a niece, Elizabeth Nevln of Glastonbury; a grand-nephew, David M.

Kelley of New Hartford; a grandnlece, Katharine Balesano of Glastonbury. She was predeceased by a brother, Robert F. Hutt; and a niece, Mary Slawskl. Brewer, died suddenly Saturday (Oct. 2, 1993) at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center. Betty, who was born in Hartford in 1937, was the daughter of Mrs. Teresa West of Farmlngton, and the late Benlamln West.

She attended local schools prior to embarking on a lengthy and commendable career in the General Assembly of the State of Connecticut In 1967. During the ensuing 26 years, her contributions to the operation of the State Legislature and assistance In the enactment of legislation encompassed participation on numerous committees and commissions. Among them were the Commission to Revise Criminal Statutes and the Energy Commission; the General Law Committee and the Judiciary Committee. She participated in commissions to review regulations for a basic auto reparations system and a commission to study and draft legislation for the reorganization and certification of the courts. The latter commission resulted In the merger of the Circuit Court and the Court of Common Pleas.

In 1977, she was appointed to the position of Regulation Review Clerk for the State Senate, where she served In an exemplary fashion until 1981. At that time, she was designated as Permanent Clerk of the Senate and had served In this position through the present legislative assembly. Besides her husband, Betty is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Patrick and Jean Brewer of Granby; her daughter, Colleen Brewer and fiance, Mr. Grant Moore, both of West Hartford; her sisters, Margaret Rlcclo of Rocky Hill and Frances Breon of Washington State; her three granddaughters, Danielle, Jessica, and Krlsten Brewer of Granby; several nieces and nephews. The funeral will bo today, 9:15 a.m., from the Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmlngton West Hartford, with a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m., in St.

FRECKELTON. Agnes M. Freckelton, 87, of 815 Hopewell Road, South Glastonbury, died Sunday, October 3, 1993, at home. Born June 26, 1906 in Glastonbury, daughter of the lata Samuel and Vera (Shlpman) Freckelton, she wa a lifelong resident. Prior to her retirement In 1971, she was secretary for The Travelers Insurance Hartford.

Agnes was life member of the Congregational Church of South Glastonbury, which recently recognized her as one of their oldest members. She was also a member of The Travelers Girls Club, the Glastonbury Chamber of Commerce, AARP 851, and the Gideon Wells Senior Citizens Association. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Frances W. Callahan of Sarasota, two nephews, Thomas W. Freckelton of South Windsor, Harold R.

Freckelton of Manchester; two grandnephews; and two grand-nieces, David Freckelton, Laurie Genovesl, both of Manchester, Gordon Freckelton of Middle-town, Debra Freckelton of New York; and several cousins. Funeral services wll be Thursday, 1 p.m., In the Congregational Church of South Glastonbury (corner of Main and High Street.) Burial will be In Old Church Cemetery, South Glastonbury. Angelina (Guerrlero) Perlllo, 88, of 62 Brainard Road, Enfield, died Sunday (Oct. 3) at her home. She was born In New York City, and lived In Enfield for the past 17 years. She was a retired seamstress for Standard Oil, and a communicant of St. Martha's Church.

She was the widow of Raphael Perlllo, who died In 1985. She Is survived by two sons, Lou Perlllo of Enfield, and Lt. Comm. Donald Perlllo U.S. Coast Guard-Ret, of Scottsdale, a sister, Pasquilina Rotella of Tampa, seven grandchildren, Jeffrey, Michael, Gina, Jimmy, John, Julie, and Joseph Perlllo; and a great-grandson, Michael Anthony Perlllo II.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, 9:15 a.m., from the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, with a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m., In St. Martha's Church. Burial will be In St. Patrick's King Street Cemetery. Calling hours are today, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

KERIN. Harold T. Kerln, 79, of Den mark, Maine, and Jensen Beach, died Friday (Oct. 1, 1993) at Northern Cumberland Hospital, Brldgeton, Maine. He was born In Hartford, June 11, 1914, son of Edward B.

and P. Agnes (Cabelus) Kerin. He graduated from Bulke-ley High School, Hartford. He was a plant manager at Fafnlr Bearing, a division of Textron Corp. He was a police commissioner, past president of the Chamber of Commerce, a charter president of the Klwanis Club, served on the Board of Fducation, and was a town selectman in Kensington.

He had served with the U.S Naval Reserve during World War II. He had lived in Denmark since 1977, moving from Connecticut. He married the former Barbara Anderson in 1977. Survivors Include his wife of Denmark; a son, William Kerin of Hop-klnton, N.H.; a daughter, Maureen Tempesta of Cotuit, a brother, William Kerin of West Hartford; four stepchidren; and five grandchildren. There are no services.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Raymond-Wentworth Funeral Home, Brldg-ton, Maine. KILBOURNE. Gregory Alphonsus Kilbourne, infant son of Richard and Janine Kilbourne, of West Hartford, born Sept. 13, 1993, died Oct. 2, 1993.

James Edward Lee, 81, of Bloomfield, son of the late Sam and Alice Lee, died Saturday (Oct. 1) at Wintonbury Convalescent Home. He was born In Cuthbert, and lived In HartfordBloom-field area the last 43 years. He was a past communicant of St, Benedict's and St. Michael's Church in Hartford.

She Is survived by two daughters, Marlon Borrlello of Berlin, and Janet Young of Cheshire; a son, Ralph Borrlello of Berlin; three grandchildren, Richard G. Young of Clinton, John E. Young of Ham-den, and Dr. Paul R. Young of Ponte Vedra, and seven great-grandchildren.
