Women's softball games are a hit with sports fans SCOREBOARD Mafor Leogue Standings Thursday, 1983 Ukiah Dally Journal, Uklah, From United Press International By MOSTYN THAYER Associate Sports Editor Instead of sitting inside on muggy summer evenings, local softball fans should consider getting out in the gentle breeze at Franli Zeek Elementary School and enjoying some Ukiah Women's Athletic Association softball. Games are played Monday through Thursday nights at Frank Zeek, located at the north end of Bush Street, at 6,7:30 and9 p.m. In recently played -IDIVISION Hansenl5 Dave Hansen Trucking really put its game "into gear" hi this contest, with Barb Feliz tossing a six-hitter and holdbig FMC scoreless in every frame but the third, while her teammates were supporthis her with a 15-hit attack, bringing the nue into effect with a four-run sixth inn- ins. Rhonda Hansen went with a home run, two doubles and three RBIs for Dave Hansen Trucking: Sandy Gutierrez, two doubies, four RBIs; Judy Rubens, a double, three RBIs; Julie Shannon, two RBIs, and Val Moore tripled. The mother-daughter team of Stella Moschetti (making her first appearance on a softball diamond hi a numt)er of years) and Donna Moschetti led FMC, Stella getting two hits, and Donna a double and had two RBIs.

Tonya Sparkes also hit a double for FMC, which was forced to play with only nine players. Tyland Vhieyards 16, 9 In a free-swinging contest, Tyland Vineyards rapped out a total of 20 hits, and way had 16. Tyland made its hits count and took advantage of numerous errors, however, to take a 12-2 lead and coasted in from there. Maria Kubanis was the winning pitcher, and Skeeter Walters was the loser. Nan Sanchez topped Tyland with a double and four RBIs; Jan Cox was with a double, a triple, two RBIs; Cheryl Caulfield had a double, two RBIs; Maria Kubanis, two RBIs, and Marie Reid, a double.

For Sue Ward homered and knocked in three runs, and Kim Dayton had two RBIs. Debbie Cambra only allowed nine hits, all singles, and was backed by key double-plays in the fhrst and sixth hinings to lead Huff 'n Puff to victory. Bob Huff's Market was limited to 11 hits, none for extra bases, but bunched them together and collected eight walks to score when it had to, led by Mel Tuttle, Julie Irving and Mary Jane Speer, who had two RBIs apiece. Gale Reeder went and Cindy Campbell knocked hi her team's only run. B-2 DIVISION Hot Sox 13, Rancheria 4 The Hot Sox came back from a 4-3 deficit, scoring five runs in the fourth and sixth innings to give Arlene Toohey a victory, and Terri Hiatt a loss.

Kyle Clark was socking the ball for Hot Sox, going with a triple, a double and three RBIs; Karen Ottoboni hit a double and had two RBIs; Sue Funtsch and Megan Crosby, two RBIs each, and Wendy Patterson, a double. Rancheria Realty's Rhonda Poehlmann went and had one RBI; Terri Hiatt, a double, one RBI, and Ghia Carr and Karen Weiblein picked up one RBI each. Fun run Sunday Journal Sports Staff Area nmners who participated in last Sunday's Russian River Run might experience a feelhig of deja vu this Sunday, June 12, by enter ing a fun run in Talmage, sponsored by the orth Coast Striders Running Cluo. The course to be run Sunday will cover 6.47 miles and there is no charge for participating. The nm will begin at River School, Eastside Road, hi Talmage aiS a.m.

Entrants need not be members of the Striders to enter. Bottle Shop 17, 9 The Bottle Shop, leading 9-5, broke this game wide-open with six runs in the fifth inning to help Denise Moroni score a victory. Pat Johnson took the loss. Bottle Shop's Judy Chambers had a fantastic ame, collecting two doubles and SIX RBIs; ami Olson was with three RBIs; Tracy Murray had a double and three RBIs; Lynn Gazich, two doubles, and Brenda Leek knocked hi two runs. Sherry Tuttle homered and got three RBIs for Johnson Rosetti Insurance; Jennifer Sams, two RBIs, and Joanna VanderStoep and Lori Whitmill each hit a double.

B-3 DIVISION Celentano 25, Adventist 5 Celentano Co. drove ten runs across the plate in the second inning and 11 in the third, with the aid of errors by Ukiah Adventist Hospital, to triumph in five innings. Meanwhile, Janle Diaz limited Adventist to five hits to earn the win. Celentano got 19 hits, 17 of them of singles, including Jan Hull, a double, four RBIs; Terri Slavln, a double, three RBIs, and Mary Celentano and Judy Klaisner also had three RBIs apiece. Diane Stone was the game's hitting star, in a losing cause, belting two home runs for three RBIs, and Debbie Southwick and Sharon Whiteaker had an RBI each.

Gibbons 19, Tax 18 In a see-saw battle, Frank Howard Tax Service moved out to a 16-11 lead, only to see Gibbons' Trucking score seven times in the bottom of the fifth for an 18-16 advantage. In the top of the final sixth inning. Tax tied it up with two runs, 18-18, but once agahi Gibbons bounced back when Nancy Williams crossed the plate with the winning run in the bottom of the sixth to squeak out a hard-fought victory. Emy Lincoln got the win, Teresa Nichols the tough loss. It was a hitting free-for-all.

Tax getting 29 hits, and Trucking, 25. Barbara Gibbons led Gibbons' Trucking with four RBIs; Kim Johnson had two RBIs, and Carm Mendoza hit a triple. Kerl McDonald was outstanding for Tax, hitthig a triple and winding up with SEVEN RBIs; Noreen McDonald-Sandey had two RBIs, and Vickl Crawford, a double. Ernie's 16, Taco Bell 3 Ernie's Liquors remained undefeated with another convincing five-inning victory, scoring in every frame while Ann Arneson blanked Taco Bell after Angela Reeger hit a three-run homer in the first inning. Arneson gave up just six hits.

Ernie's took advantage of eight Taco Bell errors, and spread its offense around with Debbie Rose hitting two doubles for three RBIs; Ann Arneson going Dottie Croghan getting three RBIs, and Karen Clark and Linda Gardner, two RBIs each.
