Reception wine plans come easy FLORIDA TODAY Wires What you do not need at this joyous but trying time in your life is more stress. But there is so much involved in planning a wedding, and you barely know anything about wine. Well, relax. Wine is the easy part.

Wedding caterers expect to serve three drinks to each adult for each two-hour period of reception. This means all beverages, including soft drinks, juices, mineral water or alcoholic beverages. At a dinner, you should portion glasses of wine per adult. If you are serving two wines, allow one glass of the appetizer wine for each person and glasses for the entree wine. This is a generous amount to plan for, because some people do not drink alcoholic beverages.

Some guests will have more, but many will have less. As an average this figure works. To complete your calculations for buying remember these facts: A regular 750-milliliter bottle of wine or champagne holds five (5-ounce) glasses or six (4-ounce) glasses of wine. Your glass size will determine the portion. Using even smaller glasses enables you to pour eight 3-ounce portions per bottle.

There are usually 12 bottles in a case of wine. Therefore, a case holds 60 to 72 portions (or 96 (3-ounce) portions). Figuring the portions per person as discussed, each adult guest averages about a half bottle of wine throughout the whole event. This is a moderate amount. If the champagne is being served only as a toast, you can allow eight portions for each bottle.

Consider larger than normal bottles, which can be festive and unusual. Carlos M. Carpio Hoyos Kristen Renee Koenig Tennessee. Althea originally is from New York; Bob from Tennessee.
