BEDS BREAKFAST The Imperial Palace has been named as Employer of the Year The Imperial Palace Hotel and Casino has been named the 1990 national Employer of the Year by the President's Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities. Erica Jones of the committee's Office of Public Affairs in Washington, D.C., made the announcement. With 2,549 employees of which 13 have disabilities the Imperial Palace won the private sector award comprised of companies with more than 1,000 employees. Previous winners in this category include Du Pont, IBM, and McDonald's.

The Imperial Palace was cited for the diversity of disabled "people it employs and the number of varied jobs they perform. "Many of our employees do their job differently than their co-workers," said Imperial Palace General Manager Ed Crispcll. "In the end, however, they obtain the same results and are very productive members of the Imperial Palace A checklist of employee disabilities reflects the diversity for which the Imperial Palace was recognized, They include multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, hearing impaired, Tourctte's syndrome, epilepsy, diabetes, cancer and brain tumors. The jobs these special employees perform at the Imperial Palace include accountants, ers, cocktail servers, houscpersons, cooks, cashiers, maintenance workers and clerks. "We are very proud of our hiring record," said Michael Nelson, director of personnel.

"Finding a workplace for the disabled at the Imperial Palace means a lot to them and to us, as well." The Imperial Palace became the first employer in the State of Nevada to be nominated for the national award because of its leadership role in the community. Through the example set by the Imperial Palace, many doors have been opened at other major resorts for persons with disabilities. None, however, can match the honorable distinctions bestowed upon the Imperial Palace. In 1987 and 1989, the Imperial Palace won the Employer of the Year award sponsored by the Nevada Governor's Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities. By doing so, the hotel became the first two-time winner of this award.

Also, in both years, the Imperial Palace employees were named runners-up for the state Employee of the Year award. These achievements drew accolades from Gov. Bob Miller. The Imperial Palace will receive its award at the President's Committee Annual Meeting, May 22-24, at the Loews Anatole Hotel in XT other hotel in Las Veaas offers more value in their package than Bally's.
