DEATH NOTICES DEATH NOTICES DEATH NOTICES AMBROSIO. Frank Ambrosio, 80, of Newington, formerly of Queens, N.Y., husband of Philomena (Gerrato) Ambrosio, died Feb. 10, 1994, after a long illness. Besides his wife, he leaves his sons and a daughter-in-law, Anthony Ambrosio, and Frank and Frances Ambrosio; his daughters and son-inlaw, Phyllis and Frank Grosso, and Dorothy Colletta; five grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and four sisters. Funeral services will be Monday, 9:15 a.m., from the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Newington, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m., at Church of the Holy Spirit, Newington.

Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, New Britain. Calling hours are today, 2- 4 and 7-9 p.m., and Sunday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., at the funeral home. DONAGHUE. Pearl (Ames) Donaghue, 87, Middletown, widow of John H. Donaghue, died Feb.

11, 1994, at home. She was born in Hartford, was a resident of Wethersfield for 48 years, and Middletown for the past two years. She was a member of the South Congregational Church, Hartford, for over 50 years. She leaves a son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Carole Donague of Manchester; a daughter and son-in-law, Dianne and John Zukowski of Niantic; a brother, Edward B. Ames of Wethersfield; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be Tuesday, 10 a.m., at the Rose Hill Funeral Home, 580 Elm Rocky Hill. Burial will be in Rose Hill. Memorial Park, Hill. DUCHESNE. Elmer F. Duchesne, 79, of Tolland, died Thursday (Feb. 10) at Rockville General Hospital. Born in Bridgewater, one of seven children, he lived in Hartford for many before moving to the Manchester area.

Prior retirement in 1978, he had been employed by Pratt Whitney Machine West Hartford, for 45 years. His longtime love of the sport of bowling, in tournament as well as weekly league play, brought him in contact with many worthy opponents and friends. His family will always treasure and never forget the times they shared with him. Mr. Duchesne joins his beloved wife of 55 years the late Elvira E.

(Carfiro) Duchesne. He is survived by a daughter, Joan Boule of Quarryville, a son, Bob Duchesne of Tolland; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Feb. 16, 10:30 a.m., from the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 W.

Center Manchester, followed by burial in the family lot in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill. T. Raymond Dunne, 92, of 176 Woodrow Road, Amsterdam, N.Y., Thursday (Feb.

10) in St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam, N. Y. Born in Thompsonville, son of the late Thomas and Amanda (Gendron) Dunne, he moved to Amsterdam, N.Y., in 1934. He was a carpet designer for Mohawk Carpet Mills, and in 1948 came back to Enfield to work for the former Bigelow-Sanford Carpet Co.

He returned to Amsterdam, N.Y., in 1952, and went back to work for Mohawk, retiring in 1966. He was a former member of the Knights of "Columbus, the A.A.R.P., and Sterling Care of the Amsterdam Memorial Hospital. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, Amsterdam, N. Y.

His first wife, Elizabeth (Laverty) Dunne, died in 1973. He leaves his second wife, Reba (Lawton) Dunne; two sons, Thomas R. Dunne of Dracut, and Ronald Lawton of Amsterdam, N.Y.; three daughters, Mrs. Frank (Rita) of Enfield, Mrs. Clifford (Betty) Levendusky of Broadalbin, N.Y., and Phyllis Wood of Amsterdam, N.Y.; a brother, Arthur Dunne of Amagansett, L.I.; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; several nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Another granddaughter, Laura Dunne, died in 1990. The funeral will be Monday, 9:15 a.m., from the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, with a Mass, 10 a.m., in St. Patrick's Church. Burial: St. Patrick's King Street Cemetery.

Calling hours are Sunday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. FOURNIER. Exilda R. Fournier, 74, formerly of 51 Old Stafford Springs, died Friday (Feb. 11, 1994) af Enfield Nursing Health Care Center.

She was born in Providence, R.I., and came to Stafford Springs 70 years ago. She was educated in the local schools. She was a retired mender at the former Parks Mill, after 18 years of service. She was the widow of Edgar A. Fournier, who died June 11, 1991.

Exilda is survived by a daughter, Ms. Denise C. Hannan of Somers; a grandson, Justin M. Hannan of Enfield; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral will be Monday, 9 a.m., at Introvigne Funeral Home, 51 E.

Earl R. Roaix, 67, husband of Virginia (Clark) Roaix, of South Windsor, died (Feb. 10, peacefully 1994) Thursday chester Memorial Hospital, with his family present. He was born Aug. 24, 1926, in Hodgdon, Maine, and had lived in South Windsor for the past 36 years.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War 11, serving in the Pacific with the 319th Glider Field Artillery Battalion of the 82nd Airborne Division. He retired electro after many years with South Windsor, and member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, South Windsor. Besided his wife, Virginia, he leaves a son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Janice Roaix Enfield; a daughter, Selina M.

Roaix; five sisters, Athelyne Morgan, Thankful Devoe, Estella Roaix, Hazel Gerow, and Pauline Campbell, all of Maine; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by four brothers, John, Bud, Paul, and Arnold. Funeral service will be Monday, 11:30 a.m., at the Samsel Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor, with the Rev. Thomas White, officiating. Burial will be in Wapping Cemetery, South Windsor.

His family will receive friends Sunday, 3-5 p.m., at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association, 45 Ash East Hartford 06108. RYAN. John J. Ryan, 77, of Hobe Sound, died Sunday (Feb.6, 1994) at Martin Memorial Hospital South, Port Salerno, Fla.

Born in Bristol, he had been a resident of Hobe Sound for 15 years, from Hartford. Prior to retirement, he was an engineer with Pratt Whitney, Harfford, for 23 years. He served in the U.S. Army. Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Ryan of Hobe Sound, a son, David Ryan of Hartford; three daughters, Verlyne Eanniello of South Dennis, Cathleen Ryan Middletown, and Ellen Stebbins of Atlanta, three sisters, Ann Ryan, Kay Reimer, and Betty Broderck, all of Bristol; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Irene Ryan, April 5, 1970. A memorial service was held in Florida. Those who wish may make contributions to the American Cancer Society, 32 Osceola Stuart, FL 34994. Arrangements are under the direction of the Aycock Funeral Home, Stuart, Fla. SMITH.

Inez Roxie Smith, 65, of 360 Main Hartford, died peacefully Tuesday (Feb. 8) her home. Born in Hartford, daughter of the late John and Lillian Smith, she was a lifelong resident of Hartford. Before retiring in 1993, she was employed for 23 years at the Travelers Insurance Co. She was a longtime member of the Mount Olive Baptist Church, Hartford.

She leaves a son, Ellis A. Ricks of Seattle, a brother, Thomas Smith of Middletown; a sister, Constance Meyers of Hartford; nine grandchildren; a host of great nephews, cousins, other relatives, nieces, and friends. She was predeceased by a son, Robert R. Ricks. Funeral services will be Tuesday, 1 p.m., at the Mount Olive Baptist Church, 20 Battle Hartford, with the Rev.

James L. Fenner Pastor, officiating. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service, 12-1 p.m. Burial will be in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield.

Stephen Lee Snover, Ph.D., professor at the University of Hartford, of Hartford, died Fri(Feb. 11, 1994). He was born March 17, 1944, son of George Snover of Hartford, and the late Beverly (Wagoner) Snover. Besides his father, he is survived by two sisters, Sandra, and Sue and her husband, Justin Hoffman; and nieces, Skye MacFarlane, and Jennelle Hoffman. Steve an active member of Grace Episcopal Church, and City Singers of Hartford, and helped in feeding Hartford's homeless.

He leaves many friends, associates, students, and relatives, who loved him deeply, as he did them. Please join Memorial Mass to celebrate Steve's life at Grace Episcopal Church, 55 New Park Saturday, Feb. 19, 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, a scholarship in Steve's name will be established. was a member of Sacred Heart Church. He was retiree of Fafnir Bearing after working there for 25 years. He is survived by his wife, Helen (Walicki) Tabellione; a daughter, Sandra Sylvia of Plainville; five sisters, Emma Leardi, Connie Wagner, Marge Maglio, and Helen Murphy, all of New Britain, and Carmela Bailey of Litchfield; her beloved granddaughters, Lisa Sylvia-Church of New York, and Dina Sylvia of Bristol; several nieces and nephews. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday, 2-6 p.m. WASZAK. Sister Mary Regis Waszak, 86, of the Felician Sisters Order, Enfield, died Friday (Feb. 11, 1994) at the convent's O.L.A.

infirmary. She had taught for many years in the mid states, and for two years in the local area. She was instrumental in the accounting department within the Enfield Province until 1991. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Helen Waszak of Staten Island, N. and several nieces and nephews.

She predeceased by a sister who was also in the Felician Community, Sister Mary Pontia, who died in 1978. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, 11:30 a.m., at Our Lady of the Angels Convent Chapel. Burial will be in St. Adalbert's Cemetery, Enfield. Visiting hours, today and Sunday, p.m., at the Felician Sisters Convent.

Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, 43 Shaker Road, Enfield, has charge arrangements. Obituaries Actor William 'Jake and the Associated Press LOS ANGELES William Conrad, who played the rotund district attorney in TV's "Jake and the Fatman" and whose booming voice narrated such popular shows as His Friends" and "The Fugitive," died Friday of a heart attack. He was 73. Mr. Conrad became ill at his home and died at the Medical Center of North Hollywood, hospital spokeswoman Tricia Spellman said.

Mr. Conrad played J.L. "Fatman" McCabe, a tough district attorney and former cop, on the CBS-TV se- Mr. Conrad ries "Jake and the Fatman," which ran from 1987 to 1992. He also starred in the detective series which ran from 1971 to 1976 on CBS.

Joe Penny, who played "Jake" to Conrad's "Fatman" on the series, said their on-screen collaboration continued off screen. a "I considered Bill a very good friend and was very honored to work with him for the years that we had together," Penny said through a spokesman at the Rogers Cowan publicity agency. Conrad, 73; Fatman' star Mr. Conrad was the original Marshal Matt Dillon in the "Gunsmoke" radio network drama, which ran for 11 years on CBS. His resonant voice provided background narration on many TV programs, most "The Fugitive" and "'The During the 1960s, he also narrated the animated television series "Rocky His Friends," a cult favorite also called "'The Bullwinkle Show." In 1946 he made his motion picture debut in "The Killers." His other acting credits include "Body and Soul," "Sorry, Wrong Number," "East Side, West Side," "'The Naked Jungle," "Five Against the House," "Johnny Concho," "-30-" and "The Road Back." Mr.

Conrad worked in the production and direction of such films as "An. American and "First to Fight." "He could be irascible and very blunt and direct in his opinions, but underneath it all he was a very decent, thoughtful and considerate gentleman," said Dean Hargrove, executive producer of "Jake and the 1114 Fatman." Before his acting career, Mr. Conrad was an announcer, writer and director for Los Angeles radio station KMPC. UDIL He is survived by his wife, Tippy, and a son, Christopher, who lives in Seattle. A private memorial service will be held at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills cemetery.

FARRELL. Atwood Farrell 68, of 6 Sharon Drive, Storrs, died Thursday (Feb. 10, 1994) at Rockville General Hospital. He was born in Bar Harbor, Maine, educated in the local schools, lived in Stafford 11 years, then moved to Storrs 9 years ago. He was a Navy veteran of World War 11, and a retired electrician for International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local No.

(Mason) Gabriel, 72, Catalina Drive, Enfield, died (Feb. 11, 1994) at Hartford Hospital. Born in Lawrence, Oct. 10, 1921, she resided in Enfield for the past 43 years, and Windsor, prior to 1951. She was a member of St.

Patrick Church, and celebrated her 50th Golden wedding anniversary, Nov. 25, 1993. She leaves her beloved husband of 50 years, John J. Gabriel; three daughters, Kathryn E. Szynal of Dublin, Ohio, Dianne M.

Trinque of Farmington, and Carol J. Tallarita of Enfield; and a son, Richard T. Gabriel of Bethel; ten grandsons; a granddaughter; brothers, Walter Mason of Manhattan Beach, and James Mason of New Britain; a sister, Marion Zamenski Newington; and several nieces a and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, John M. Gabriel.

Funeral services will be Monday, 10:15 a.m., at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapel, 43 Shaker Road, Enfield, followed a Mass of Christian Burial, 11 a.m., in St. Patrick's Church. Hawkins, 59, of 288 Bellevue Hartford, departed this life Thursday (Feb. 10) at a local Bloomfield convalescent home. He was born Feb. 20, 1934, in Webster County, to the late Earnest W. and Curry Hawkins, and was a resident of Hartford for 36 years.

He was a retired employee of the Institute of Living, Hartford, and was a member of Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church, Hartford. He is survived by his brother, Isiah Hawkins of Hartford; five sisters, Dorothy Hawkins of Preston, Ida Green, Elois Mathis, Ora, and Mary Hawkins, of Hartford; a host of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his brother and sister, Daniel Hawkins, and Gladys Robinson. Funeral service is Monday, 1 p.m., at Clark, Bell Bell Funeral Home, 319 Barbour Hartford, with calling hour, Sunday, p.m., at the funeral home. Interment: Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford.

She was the beloved wife of Herbert J. Irving. Mrs. Irving was born in Burlington, March 30, 1923. She lived in Marlborough for many years before retiring to Davenport, Fla.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and William Tesch of Voorheesville, N.Y., and Carol and Phillip Pisani of Manchester; and two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Mary Waters of East Greenbush, N.Y., and Earl and Debbie Waters of Vernon. Mrs. Irving is aiso survived by 16 grandchildren; and 13 greatgrandchildren. The funeral will be Monday, Feb. 14, 10 a.m., at Rose Hill Funeral Home, 580 Elm Rocky Hill.

Calling hours are Sunday, Feb. 13, 2-5 p.m. KAYTIS. Anna (Razaitis) Kaytis, 96, of Church Street, New Britain, died Thursday (Feb. 10) at a local convalescent home.

She was born in Lithuania, and came to the United States 83 years ago. She was the widow of Frank Kaytis. She was employed at the former Prentice Manufacturing, Berlin, until her retirement. She was a member of St. Andrew's Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Nellie Schmidt of Britain; a Anna Konieczko Bristol; nine grandchildren; many great and great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two sons, Frank Kaytis, and Victor Kaytis. Funeral services will be today, 9:30 a.m., from the Venskunas FUneral Home, 665 Stanley New Britain, with a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m., at St. Andrew's Church. Burial will be in St.

Joy, 83, of St. Augustine, died Feb. 9, 1994, at his home. He was born in Plymouth, and had resided in St. Augustine, for the past 22 years.

He was a volunteer with the Council on Aging, and was of the Meth-' odist faith. He is survived by his wife, Opal, of St. Augustine, two daughters, Catherine Joy: Bressett of Bayfield, and Della M. Haig of Honolulu, Hawaii; two sons, Howard W. Joy Jr.

of New Britain, and Radford D. Joy of Holiday, a stepson, DaCallahan Augustine, seven grandchildren; and a great-grandson. Funeral service will be today, 4 p.m., at the chapel of Craig Funeral Home. Visitation will be today, 2-5 p.m. KOSTEK.

Edward J. Kostek, 77, husband the late Rose (Ratti) Kostek, of 268 Hilton Drive, South Windsor, died Friday (Feb. 11, 1994). He was born in Hatfield, and lived in the Hartford area for most of his life. He was a retired Teamster member.

He was a member of the VFW, and a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church, South Windsor. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He leaves a son and daughter-inlaw, Gary and Claudette Kostek of South Windsor; and two brothers, Thomas Kostek of Newport, N.C., and Anthony J.

Kostek of Newington. Funeral services will be Monday, 9 a.m., from the D'Esopo East Hartford Funeral Chapel, 30 Carter East Hartford, with a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m., in St. Francis of Assisi Church, South Windsor. MORAN. Doreen Marie Moran, 33, of Bristol, died Friday (Feb. 11, 1994). She was the wife of Thomas J. Moran.

Born March 16, 1960, in Southington, she was the daughter of Norma (Celella) Shinaly of New Britain, and Eugene Dube of Bristol. She was an Administrative Specialist for Brown Williamson, Bristol. Besides her husband and parents, she is survived by a son, Michael Moran; a daughter, Devin Moran, both of Bristol; two brothers, Mark lerardi of Burlington, and James lerardi of Bristol; a sister, Diedra lerardi of Washington D.C.; two nephews, James lerardi Ill of Bristol, Kevin P. lerardi of Punta Gorda, a niece, Katherine E. lerardi of Burlington; a stepfather, George J.

Shinaly of New Britain; two stepsisters, Susanne Farcasso of Kensington, and Kathleen Charbonneau of South Windsor; a stepbrother, Stephen Shinaly of New Britain; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends. The funeral will be Monday, 9:15 a.m., from the Della Vecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main Southington, to St. Thomas Church, Southington, for a mass at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St.

Paholski 70, of Rocky Hill, died Friday (Feb. 11) at Hartford Hospital. He was born in Rocky Hill. He had been employed at the Algonquin Gas served with the Rocky Hill Fire Department, and a Rocky Hill Policeman. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S.

Coast Guard, and received the Purple Heart. He was a member of St. James Church, Disabled American Veteran Association, and the Purple Heart Association. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis (Rivers) Paholski; two sons, John J. Paholski Jr.

of Ivoryton, and Arthur J. Paholsky O1- ney, five daughters, Sandra L. Paholsky, Judith J. Graham, and Cheryl Czech, all of Rocky Hill, Donna DiMotta of East Hartford, and Mary E. Snyder of Bellows Falls, two brothers, Edward Pacholski of Rocky Hill, and Walter Paholsky of Ocala, two sisters, Mary Freeburg of Zephyr Hills, and Sally Bitel of Ellington; and 18 grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a grandchild, Joshua Pacholski. Funeral services are Monday, 9:15 a.m., from the Rose Hill Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m., at St. James Church, Rocky Hill. Burial: Rose Hill Memorial Park. Friends wishing may send contributions to American Heart Association. REGNIER. Helen (Coty) Regnier, 83, of 46 Wells Road, Vernon, widow of Romeo F. Regnier, died Thursday (Feb. 10) at Rockville General Hospital.

She was born in Newport, R.I., and was a Vernon resident for five years. Mrs. Regnier is survived by her daughters, Martha Burke of Hyde Park, and Mary Lou Perkins of Vernon; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, 11 a.m., in St. Joseph's Church, Rockville.

Main Rockville Ana Stephen Lee Snover; math professor Stephen Lee Snover, a professor of mathematics and computer science at the University of Hartford, died Friday.

He was 49. Mr. Snover was born in Syracuse, N.Y., and grew up in Liverpool, N.Y. He moved to the Hartford area more than 15 years ago to join the university faculty. He earned an undergraduate degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a master's degree from Harvard University, and a doctorate from Michigan State University.

Mr. Snover, who lived in Hartford, was a tenor with the City Singers, which he helped found, and served as a member of the group's board of directors. He also was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Hartford, where he was involved in the choir and helped in feeding homeless people. Survivors include his father, George Snover of Hartford; two sisters, Sue Hoffman of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., and Sandra Snover of Buckingham, and two nieces. There will be a memorial Mass at 11 a.m.

Saturday, Feb. 19, at Grace Episcopal Church, 55 New -Park Hartford. hen A scholarship in mathematics and computer studies will be established in Mr. Snover's name at the university. Donations may be sent to the mathematics, physics and computer science department at the University of Hartford, West Hartford 06117.

He was 70. Mr. Paholski, of Rocky Hill, also had worked for the Algonquin Gas Co. and had served with the Rocky Hill Fire Department. A recipient of the Purple Heart, Mr.

Graham and DEATH NOTICES SYCZ. Pauline (Bourret) Sycz, 63, of 8 Wapping Wood Road, Ellington, died Friday (Feb. 11, 1994) at Rockville General Hospital. She was the wife of Bronislaus Sycz. She was born in East Charleston, and moved from Hartford to Ellington 26 years ago.

She retired 10 years ago from Hartford Hospital. She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church, Rockville. Besides her husband, survived by two daughters, RoseAnn Sycz of Ellington, Barbara Beebe of Vernon; two brothers, Gerard Bourret of Fort Meyers, and Maurice Bouret of Bristol; three grandchildren, Stephen and Kathryn Updike, both Ellington, and Michelle Beebe of Vernon. She was predeceased by two brothers, Lucien Bourret, and John Bourret; and a sister, Janet Crafaik.

10, 1994, at Hartford Hospital. He was born in Hartford, and was a lifelong resident. He retired in 1969 from the Royal Typewriter after working there for 43 years. He was a member of the Covenant Congregational Church, 1 Westminster Road, West Hartford 06107, and the Half Century Club, West Hartford, and the Elmwood Senior Center. Besides his wife, he leaves a son and daughter-in-law, Paul H.

and Joan Whitman of East Granby; a daughter and son-in-law, Holly and William Morran of Hartford; a sister, Lillian Spencer of Glastonbury; five grandchildren; and two great-grandsons. He was predeceased by a daughter, Elaine Hutton. Funeral service will be Tuesday, Feb. 15, 1994, 12 noon, at the Rose Hill Funeral Home, 580 Elm Rocky Hill.
