Cos Atujetes SKmes U.S. champion Yasser Seirawon of Seattle has started 7-1 in a strong international tournament in Haninge, Sweden. Seirowan's victims include GM's Gyula Sax of Hungary and Lubomir Ftac-nik of Czechoslovakia and former world champion Anatoly Karpov of the Soviet Union. NATIONAL NEWS The National Elomentary Championship, held last weekend in Hollywood, Florida, drew 870 young chess players from around the country. Tal Shaked of Arizona, the country's top-rated 11-year-old, scored 6V4-V4 to take first prize in the K-6 section. Among those tied for second place with 6-1 was Andranik Moissian of Van Nuys. Nawroso Nur of New York and David Peterson of Texas each scored 7-0 in the Primary (K-3). section.

Eric Rynko of Arizona and William Surlow of Los Angeles wore next with Ql2Vi. The National Junior High Championship took place two weeks ago in Salt Lake City. Masters Robert Seltzer of Massachusetts and Josh Waitzkin of New York shared first place in the K-9 section. Roy Runas of Long Beach was clear first with 7-0 in the K-8 section. Jimmy Rungthirakul of Long Beach tied for second at 6-1.

Both tournaments were run by local organizers in cooperation with the U.S. Chess Federation, the national organization that oversees tournaments, computes ratings and publishes "Chess Life" magazine.
