Music Gridiron Show Sizzles Little mercy and less discretion is expected when the Tucson Press Club launches its annual gridiron lampoon of local bigwigs and institutions next Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The theme of this year's big spoof is the Mafia in Tucson. Press president Bernie Sedtey, general producer for the show, explained that the Mafia fcheme takes a two-pronged story line. "On the one a we are proving that there really is no Mafia in Tucson," Sedley said. "And on the other hand we are warning Phoenix to stop trying to steal our Mafia.

After all, it's the "only new industry we have." The show, under the direction of Hal Landon, features a dozen skits covering the full scope of local news events for the past year. Dave Feldman stars as the head of tiie bunch in a skit involving Mafia efforts to make a deal with local officials. Cecil James plays Police Chief Bernard L. Garmire, Don Schellie is County Atty. Harry Ackerman and Mark Manning plays Better Business Bureau sleuth Norman Perry.

A women's skit presents Arizona's proposed new women's prison as being slightly more plush than the Legislature may have had in mind. The inmates don't want to get out, but the Junior League is trying to get in. Pauline Landon plays the understanding warden. Rusty Brown, Joan i Kay Cutchall. Jeanine Starrett and Binky Manning are some of the prisoners.

Christy Kimball returns to the gridiron show with a tongue-in- cheek monologue on society garden tours. Landon leaves his- directing duties briefly to Join Jim Hart in their traditional impersonation of publishers William A. Small and William R. Mathevvs. This year they.

Judy Williams, who stopped the show two years with her impression of a kidnaped striptease artist, is assisted by Jack Sheaffer in a study of a local matron whose work with teen-agers has attracted the attention of the whole community Dick Olson and Charles Gu- Uaitis romp through a skit demonstrating the troubles involved with getting qualified football coaches as principals for local schools. Political writer Jim Cooper doubles in brass to play both Congressman Stewart Udall and former state legislator Frank Robles. Joe Crystal I and Tom Duddleston team up in a TV skit that proves the price is right if the questions are rigged Gene Brooks will be quiz master. Bob Stirling is forsaking his usual Mayfield role this year to team up with Pauline Landon in a localized version of Mike Nichols and Elaine May. The finale wraps up the national and local political situation in a Hunlley-Brinkley report featuring John Farr as Richard M.

Nixon, Lou Pavlovich as Lyndon Johnson and Julian Tuthill as Sen. Barry Goldwater. Sedley and Peter Starretf do' the running commentary from a box overlooking the stage. The performances will be in the Rendezvous Room of the Santa Rita Hotel. Curtain time is 8 p.m.
