LEON FLEISHER Guest soloist THE COVER Festival Offers Famed Orchestra One of America's greatest pianists Leon Fleisher will perform with the Cleveland Orchestra Monday at 8:30 p.m. in, the University A i i The famed orchestra, with George Szell conducting, is being presented under the auspices of the Tucson Festival Society. Brahms and Beethoven will both be represented on the program--the Brahms Symphony No. 1 in minor and Beethoven's Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No. 4.

The orchestra will also perform Smetana's "The Moldau." San Francisco-born pian- isl has performed throughout Ihe world since he first studied i the late Arlur Sclinabei. He was Ihe first Amorican to win a major foreign piano com- petition when he was awarded first prize the International Concours in Belgium. Lnst year he was invited by President Eisenhower to play at the White House during an event honoring King Baudouin of Belgium and also was invited to represent the U. S. at the Brussels World's Fair.

Today Fleisher is well-established as a major concert artist and is, known throughout the world by his recordings for Epic and Columbia Masterworks. He divides his time now between sold-out tours of North and South America, and Europe. Tickets for Monday's concert featuring the two musical geniuses--Fleisher and Szeil can be obtained by calling Ihe Tucson Festival office, 2719 E. Broadway. Some tickets will be available at the box office.

Williams Cast Named Tennessee i'l I i a s' "The Glass Menagerie" will be' presented by the Drama Workshop of the Jewish. Community' Center on May 25, 2G, 28 and 29. The four-member cast has Priscilla Manspeaker as Amanda; 1 Lt. Jim Hensley as Tom; Susan Jackson as Laura and Jack Frakes as Jim. The drama is being directed by Sandy Rosenthal.

Mrs. Manspeaker, a University of Arizona graduate, has appeared in many little theater productions in Tucson and worked with a USO drama group in the New England states during World War II. Among the plays in which she has appeared are "Streetcar Named Desire," "Come Back Little Shebu," "My Sister Eileen," "Skylcrk," "Shadow" and substance" and "the Shrike." Hensley, a B-17 pilot at Davis- Monthan Air Force Base, is a native of Lake Charles, and has been active in little theaters in a number of cities. In Tucson he has been seen in "Twelve Angry Men" at the Jewish Community Center and "Rashomon" at the Play- box. A junior at the University of Arizona, Miss Jackson has appeared in UA productions of "Trojan Women," "Blood Wedding," "Diary of Anne Franke," "Carousel," and John Gabriel She was also in "Thunder Rock" at" the Jewish Center.

Frakes, a drama teacher at Rincon High School, has been active in Tucson theater since childhood, when he was a member of Mary MacMurtrie's children's group. At the Jewish Center he appeared in productions of "Middle of the Night" and "Twelve Angry Men" and directed a production of "My Heart's in the Highlands" for the Fireside group. PETE SEEGER Songs of the byways Noted Folksinger To Appear Here Pete American folk- singer, will be heard in concert Sunday, May 8, at tJie Tucson Jewish Community Center, 102 N. Plumer Ave. For 20 years Seeger has been singing and playing the banjo and 12-string guitar for audiences in this country and abroad.

He has recorded 30 albums on the Folkways label in addition to several albums as a member of the Weavers, the folksong quartet that popularized such tunes as "Goodnight, Irene," "Wimoweh," "On Top of Old Smoky" and "Tzena Tzena." Seeger is now engaged in a long term project to record various folk instrumental techniques with a sound movie camera. Several of these films have been released, including the prize-winning "Music From Oil Drums" which he filmed in Trinidad. Seeger's pioneering role in the current folksong revival has been noted by many critics and folklorist Alan Lomax has called Seeger "America's greatest folksinger." His appearance in Tucson is part of a nationwide lour, and his program will include a wide variety of folk- songs and instrumental selections from many parts of the world. The concert is sponsored by the Tucson Folksingers and tickets may be purchased at the Park Music Shop, 921 E. Third St.
